AC running on 110 outlet from garage

Will running your AC unit on 110 outlet damage the compressor? We have dog bone going from 30amp to the outlet.

Want to park in family driveway and it is HOT! We will be careful not to flip the breaker by not running microwave, toaster or any other high amperage device while cooling off.

AC Voltage is same regardless if on 50A service, 30A service OR that Household outlet at families house.

Outlet is either a 20A or 15A service.
Depending on your RV A/C Unit size (13.5K btu vs 15K btu) the 15A will be marginal.....
And if that outlet is GFCI might trip when plugging in (sometimes fridge or water heater electric elements 'leak' to ground which GFCIs trip on)

Plug in and try it......
Just monitor Line Voltage and shutdown A/C Unit if Line Voltage drops and remains below 108V

My outdoor circuits are 20 amp. Ran the 15k AC in our class C with no problem. HOWEVER if running an extension cord to the RV plug Gauge is everything. Small gauge (high number) will not handle the load...

Thanks everyone for the quick response. It works just fine running my 30amp cord with dogbone... DW has thought she heard or read that AC compressor could be damaged.

Your wife is right, low voltage to an air conditioner can wreck it.

I was in a RV park in Dodge City and the power dropped way down. Three people had their air conditioners damaged as a result.

I keep a digital voltmeter plugged into an outlet in the coach and when it gets down to 105 I shut off the air conditioning.

I'd suggest measuring the voltage at one of your outlets in the RV when the air conditioner is running.

A good quality surge protector w/EMS will protect you against those potential low voltage situations and you won't have to worry. You should use at least a surge protector anyway even if you are plugged in at home.

You can run an AC, I've done it. However there are several things to watch. The low voltage is a big concern. The DW is correct. The damage doesn't happen quickly. Running the AC for any length of time can be hazardous. The first thing I did on my new camper was to install an EMS surge protector. $200 to protect $$$$$ worth of product. Easy decision. Now I know the amps and volts running through the camper.

I have a Progressive EMS surge protection unit that I will use...
