Adapting a range cover

I have a 2005 sun valley. She is small and of course, I need more counter space so I figured I'd get a stove cover they said would fit. Course it doesn't. Can anybody come up with something non-flammable that I could put on the countersurface behind the stove to attach a hinge to? I will use the one made for the cover or I'll adapt a new hinge with metal screws. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Mr. Wart, I used a nylon cutting board and created a removeable mount for an induction cooktop. SWMBO can use it alone and have the rest of the stove top space (covered) for prep or spoons or it can be removed and have access to all three burners.

Camco 43554 Hinged Burner Cover Universal Black

We have this in white. Hinges in the middle and will stand verticle behind the stove when fully opened. We were worried about the cat getting hurt while the stove cooled down after a meal. Works great for us. It would work for what your proposing. Try Amazon or Camping World for more information.

I have this cover and although the thing folds in half, I can't make the back corner hinges attach to the countertop. The metal things that's crew to the countertop are too long to attach and then use the cover. If I could find something to fit at the back of the stove against the wall to attach it to, it would fit. Sigh! Keep looking I guess.

Mr Powell, could you send a picture? I am an RN and not mechanical so I need pictures.
PS I used to be a Powell!
Thanks, Birdie

This: Camco 43704 Decor Mate Stove Topper (Black) It is not metal. No hinges required. Will stay in place while traveling.
