Advice on how to sell

Hi everyone. We have a 2019 32 ft Conquest Class C motorhome with 4,000 miles that we would like to sell. Due to my husbands health problems and my unwillingness to drive a 32 footer in case I needed to, we decided to sell. I wonder if anyone could offer advice on the best way to sell and what it requires. Do I check with the Bank that has the loan to see what they would need and we would need to take the tags off, so how would the new owners drive it off? Sounds like simple questions but I need to know what to be prepared to do and I know there are lots of experts out there that I'm hoping can guide me in the right direction. We've only taken it on 3 trips. Southern Maryland, Myrtle Beach and Forida. Two of those trips were at military campgrounds which were excellent. We live in Maryland.

Any advice would be warmly welcomed. Thanks again for your time.

We sold our Class A DP this year using RVTrader & Facebook Marketplace. Took about a month.

Hi Barbara, and welcome aboard if you are new here. So sorry to hear you have to sell because of health issues.
Before I go any further; Thank YOUand your husband for your service!

My folks did sort of the same thing years ago. My stepdad didn't want my mom having to deal with hooking up the 5er and all if something went south for him. However the change they made was a little different, they moved up to their first 36 ft Monaco. Dad figured mom would have it easier it all she had to do was hook up the toad and go.

You asked about the bank, you definitely need to talk to them, you need to know what payoff is and if there is any penalty for early payoff. The bank will have to be "in the loop" at least a little since they are actually holding the title.

I have to ask if you and your husband want to keep traveling? If so how large of an RV would you be comfortable driving? Also have you considered an RV driving course? One may give you the confidence to handle the RV you have currently. If you would like to keep traveling, but with a smaller rig, you may want to consider trading to a smaller rig. In our area dealers are hurting for units, running ads wanting to buy RV's, probably same there. You may be able to cut a deal and trade to a smaller unit and make money in a way.
That's about all I have for you right now. BTW I am a vet myself with a few difficulties that could keep me at home. I travel with confidence though because I know that I can always find a VA hospital or clinic within an hour or two, and if that fails there is always "community care".

Good luck to you Barbara and my military brother. May following seas and fair winds bless your day.

Good luck.

The OP asked an interesting question, one that I have as well and that hasn’t yet been answered. When selling an RV privately - how does the new purchaser get the unit home? A dealer might issue temporary tags, but what do private sellers and buyers do immediately after the sale?

The answer to your question depends upon the laws of the selling state... there are 50 different answers. Call your local DMV.

Keep your plates!! A motor vehicle purchaser can drive without registration from the point of sale to their home, provided that it's a "straight shot". However, this can be up to 30 days, and the rule in one's home state applies regardless of in which state the RV was purchased. Buyer should just keep the signed title (if owned outright) and a bill of sale/loan docs (if applicable) handy. More important is not driving it away without insurance. An auto insurance policy does NOT provide "automatic" coverage for motorhomes like buying a new car, a separate RV policy will be needed. Also, the policy wouldn't be in force until 12:01 am on the day after the policy was purchased. Best of luck with the sale!

Thank you for that clear answer and I hope it serves the OP as well. As the seller I realize it’s my buyers responsibility to know what to do, but it’s nice for me to have an understanding as well.

I also gather from the previous response that policies may differ state to state. I’ll call my DMV and find out the rules where I live.

Thanks for responding!

Listing

For listing, I use f-book, craigslist, if no success in a few weeks, rvtrader.

For the actual transaction, have your bank talk to their bank is the best way to go. The banks deal with this all the time and you don't have to worry about something going wrong.

I looked at a lot of late model coaches that they owed more than it was currently worth. I hope you are not in that situation.

It will sell quickly if it is in good shape at a good price.
