We have the old 1978 truck camper almost ready, and plan to leave Maine next May of 09. We are looking for the possibility of rail travel from east to west, and it seems there are only Canadian tour packages and none for hauling the TC only. We know the cost of diesel will be a big bite, and are working to save $$ for that huge expense. Anyone have suggestions, input or guidance for us?

G'Mornin Francis: Nice to see a post from someone in one of our favorite parts of the country. We love the Maine coast. I was on the Coast Guard Cutter, "Cowslip", out of Portland back in the late 60's and grew to love Maine. Anyway, I guess we can't really help with suggestions for shipping your camper across Canada, but would really suggest driving across on the Trans-Canadian Hwy. 1, then take 16 NW from Winnipeg. Wife and I drove our rig to Alaska last summer leaving Duluth, Minnesota in late June and returning to the lower 48 over in Washington state at the end of October. I guess our only suggestion regarding your trip to Alaska is....JUST GO !!!!
You'll love it, even if it's just peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all the way....it's worth it. If ya have other questions about the Alaska trip, drop a line. Have a wonderful time. Steve & Lynette
