I get not wanting to be in a packed modern campground, but there are better rustic places than equestrian camps. Unless you don't mind the road apples on the ground, the manure and urine smells, and the flies. Just my humble opinion...

The threee i have used in florida that was not an issue at all. at the one pictured the horse barn is over 100yards away from my "site". I dont even know its there unless i walk my trash to the dumpster. Of the 8 days i was there only 2 days were there horses at all and they stayed in the barn and on the trails.

There also are not a lot of wide open free places to camp in florida. Out west yes, florida in jan? noot so much.

The only downsidee was some rver found the site and ran the gennie to 10 pm and fired back up again at 7am. luckly they only stayed one night

The horse camp we hosted in was quite a different experience. If you like horses, horse campers tend to have community camp fires, pot lucks and are quite friendly. They love to talk to other campers about their horses and will fuss over their horse like some people do with show dogs.
As a camp host, we were invited by the horse campers to ride their loan horses for rides through the redwood trails.

Barn? They have a barn? Pretty fancy! Equestrian campgrounds here in MI are rustic affairs, and frequented only by folks with horses. Your horses stay at your campsite. No barn.

We also have plenty of other free/cheap rustic options on state forest lands, so no real reason to use the equestrian camps unless you actually have horses.

Likely the most beautiful CG in the entire park. With the bonus of French Creek flowing right beside it.
