An RV is an alternative to?

How do you view your RV, is it an alternative to a tent, a motel room, or a seasonal / vacation home, etc?

I ask due to a conversion I had with an old friend the other day who had just sold their 5th wheel, which they used seasonally and kept at the lake 60 miles from where they live during the summers. They never took it anywhere else, just to and from the lake at the beginning and end of the season.

An alternative to a motel room , 3 meals out a day when traveling , and a vacation home.

When even Motel 6 , is $79 a night on some routes and meals out cost $ 30 + a day per person . Makes the cost of fuel and mileage of my diesel pusher worth while , not to mention $ 550 a month pad rental VS a $1,700+ a month for an apartment in the same area. Particularly when your in it 5 1/2 months a year.

The House, the airplane, and the hotel at the other end.

D. All of the above.

An alternative to unpredictability. No matter where we go, where we stop for a break, the restroom we use, the bed we sleep in, what’s for supper.....and on, and on, we know we’re set. Hopefully the only surprises are good ones!

We were away from Dec 20 last year till into March of this year to get away from the weather here in Jersey. Just to relax and sight see. What it cost for that time was only a little more then to rent a place at the Jersey shore for a week. That doesn't include all the other costs at the Jersey shore! I like having the RV!

Viewed as an alternative to a house. Our home is where we park it.

An RV is an alternative to?

It’s our home.
If the Journey is your Destination, nothing else matters.

We never wanted a stationary cabin.

We are not full time....yet. We look at it as our home away from home and a much nicer and cleaner option than a hotel. We enjoy our travel time more as we can stop and use restroom, quick meal or drink, without finding some questionable fast food restaurant. enjoy cooking our own food and the cost of even nicer campground or resorts is less than hotels.

We use it as both....we have a seasonal site that it stays on and when we want to travel we just load it up and hit the road.

It is the price of true freedom. Never locked in to one place and can choose whether we want civilization or not cold weather or not and have all our stuff with us wherever we go. Right now I am saving $100.00 a night supporting my mother in the hospital 500 miles from home. $25.00 for a campsite vs $125 for a mid level hotel. I can wash clothes and have everything I am used to having with me. That is priceless because otherwise I could not be here with her.

If you try to quantify RVing, It's not for you, Along with the obvious, it's a frame of mind.
