Another take on the future of RVing.

Interesting read.

Article with a lot of fluff and no real substance. As usual, the article does not tackle the total carbon footprint of the zero emissions vehicles.

I feel like I will just go with TXiceman's Cliff Notes version.

I just love the last line, "Would I buy a diesel-anything today? ... Only as a short-term waste of your money.”. Isn't that what its always been? A satisfying expenditure, not an investment?

Ain’t that the truth though. I remember my dad telling me a boat was a hole in the water you throw money into. .

In other news, we sold our diesel pusher of 18 years. Great coach. Lots of life left in it. But time for a change. And now we are ready to jump into it again with a 20 foot trailer and SUV. Will we ever learn? .

Probably not. And you won't be happy with the TT and SUV. Trust me, been there and done that very same thing.

Yah. It’ll be a big change. But a large Motorhome is definitely not compatible with where we are going and what we are doing over the next few years. Lots of little ferry crossings etc. You never know. Someday we may end up in another Motorhome after we have crossed these places off our list. We’ll see how it goes. .

Electrics solve only a small part of the “problem”

As the satisfied owner of a Nissan Leaf since 2013, I can attest to the utility and pleasure of an EV. The Leaf is a great grocery wagon. With a 150-mile range, it gets us around this corner of Washington State handily.
However, the utility part is limited. There are many places we can’t go with this machine. We have no choice but to take the minivan if the trip is to eastern WA (too few charging stations) or haul a large load from Home Depot.
The big mistake of political promotion of EVs is extending their use to large vehicles. Yes, an electric analog of a Freightliner is doable, but it’s range will be severely limited. Further, you won’t find a trucker willing to waste the time it takes to recharge on the road. Having a charging station in my garage means I seldom use a public charger, further demonstrating the limitations of long-haul EV use.
I see a lot of talk about going full solar to charge an electric RV’s traction batteries. I bet all the boondockers got a good laugh at that one.
