It happened again, this time to a retired couple from Lawrence, Kansas, who were returning from Texas on I-64 and suffered a right steering tire blowout. The failure pulled the rig off the road where it smashed into a non-frangible upright and exploded.
Mary and Ervin Huslig were lost in the accident. Ervin was trapped in the rig, his wife was either facing aft or the seat spun around and then the back failed, sending her outside the vehicle.
Their middle daughter, Michelle, is on Facebook if anyone in our RV family wishes to write the family a note of support, condolences.
Of course, all of us understand the importance of those vital steering tires. There is a long litany of these dreadful accidents, many of which have fatal outcomes. We can best honor the memories of those lost by being deligent in our maintenance, inspection, and driving habits.
Please be safe out there.
Special thanks to
Lincolnboy2 for alerting us to this mishap. The Huslig family is in our thoughts at this difficult time. The photo below is from two weeks ago, was posted on Mary Huslig's page.
