For years I've used a tank treatment that contained a lube and have never had a problem.

This has been done for years buy many of us. You can either do it the way it's done in the video or drill a hole and screw in a zerk fitting. The drilling and spraying or the zerk fitting, really only lube the arm (the biggest issue) and part of the valve. Using a tank chemical like "Mr_D" recommended makes for a two fold maintenance procedure that should keep your tank valve working well for years.

Mine have grease zerk's in about the same location. Plus I spray silicone on the metal slide rod. I was amazed how much this helped.

Good idea. I wipe a little silicon paste on the shaft, but this will lube the track that the gate rides in..

When mine wouldn’t close completely it was because the rubber gasket around the valve had buckled. Replacing the valve is a really easy job, but empty and clean the tanks throughly and then let them sit open for a while so things can dry out. There are several YouTube videos that will show you how.

Thanks for sharing that video. I use a lot of knife valves for my Koi pond and I've never thought about that.

I learned of the "genius move" and drilled/lubed/inserted screw into my two waste valves. I was shocked how easy they worked almost instantly. I now remove the screw and spray silicone in the valve cavity about every 8-10 months. The gate valves have been very easy to open/close for the last 4 years. (Note: I only lube valves after I have emptied the tanks) All the best.

I have four sewer valves....all buried deep inside the bowels of the motorhome. I can't see any of them at all.
But for the past 13 years I've flushed the tanks and then added back a couple gallons of water and half cup or so Of Dawn dish soap and I think that may help keep the knife blade lubricated.
