Come see our beautiful Black Hills! Yes, it's crowded over Sturgis (and now even the week before!). Traffic can be pretty scary and restaurants/bars/shops/attractions are crowded. It's still a great destination. We live near Hill City - own and operate a guest ranch - go down south in the winters for a couple months. [I agree that Sturgis week is not the time to ride a motorcycle if one is not experienced!] I, too, remember that hail storm - it's been a 'good' summer for them!!

Sorry but if you are looking for drinking on the streets of Sturgis, you are out of luck. The streets are patrolled and any public drunkenness or drug usage is dealt with pretty strictly. In other words, there isn't any. If you want to go see some beautiful bikes (and women) by all means go.

Now days most of the bikers are dentists, teachers, lawyers, etc.

This will be the first time in 6 years I won't be going. We stay in a RV camp in Custer. French Creek. Great people, 5200 above sea level 10 degrees cooler and less traffic. Still too hot this time of year. I've yet to see these great looking women everybody talks about. Unless they are barmaids. I guess I don't drink enough. I've seen and been in some horrific storms up there. I'm doing west Colorado this year.
