The linkage assembly arm broke on my series 32 step; I've ordered a replacement, but if I can get this one welded I'd have a spare, it looks like it's made of pot metal, so I'm not sure that it can be welded.

I haven't tried to weld one, but because of the way my friend's linkage arm broke we were able to turn it over and use it. On the end there is an unused projection with a hole in it that was probably intended for a third step. We used that hole.

I wish we had taken some pictures of what we did because it's hard to describe the procedure and also to remember exactly how we did it.

I had mine welded in Quartzsite this past winter. It broke at one of the edges where the rivet went through. Had to cut out the rivet, weld the break then drill and install a bolt. No big deal!

Are these things made out of aluminum or are the pot metal like I suspect?

My kwikee step is steel. I had it welded by a body shop after I used a sledge hammer to straighten it out. The linkage rod broke at the end of the rod where it attaches to the frame. Works perfect now.

Heres what I found out; took the arm to a weld shop, they said that it could be welded but probly wouldn't hold, it's made out of cast alunimun and is weak to start with; so I guess the only thing to do is bit the bullet and spend the $50 bucks or more for the .50 cent arm.
