Anyone use a reversing ceiling exhaust fan?
Hi,
Anyone using a reversing ceiling fan exhaust fan?
Does using it in reverse help with air flow?
Thanks,

I modified a bathroom vent by adding a reversing switch.
When all was said and done, and I'd used it for a few months, I figured it was a waste of time. Really doesn't move enough air to be all that useful.
You can do it yourself easily enough with a DPDT slide switch. All ya do is reverse the 12 volt from +/- to -/+ going to the motor.
What I ended up doing was buying a $9 floor fan that I can move around the house and aim where I want it.

have 2 of them in my RV... can't really tell when they are on, even with windows open. I'm sure they have to help some, but probably just not enough air moving thru a 14" hole.

My understanding of the primary reason to have a reversing vent fan is to move air THROUGH the RV to freshen the air. One fan pushing air in with another pulling air out, makes it easier to turn over the air the RV. Even better the farther apart they are in the RV. Especially helpful to reduce condensation in the RV (assuming the outside air is drier).
There would be a slight cooling effect if you were directly under the fan, other than that you're not likely to notice it.

Thanks both for the replies,
I did install a reversing fan but had to remove it as it failed. I had a dealer install what we both thought was a reversing fan but turned out to be a one way fan.
I do have a really good 12 volt floor fan :-)

We have two reversible fans and an exhaust-only fan. Running one of the reversibles on "in" and the other on "out" seems to cool the coach better than having both run the same way. We haven't tried "two in, one out" just yet.

Hi,
I had asked the dealer twice to make sure the fan was a reversing one and he confirmed it was. It was not until it was fitted he found out it was not. It's no big deal and not worth a 150 mile round trip to to have it replaced.
The place is short staffed at the moment and the Dervice manager had to do the install.
Ths front fan is 12 years old and will get a reversing fan if I got replace it.
I also installed 2 Max Air Rain covers. My original plan had to be to use one fan in exhaust and one in reverse while driving at below 70f. As the reverse fan worked for a few weeks I tested it and it did not really cool the coach down for when parked I found opening a window worked much better.
I do like the new fan as see through and and adds light.

Our last coach had 3 of them and we nearly always used the "reverse" (blowing out) setting. That sucks air in any open windows and out through the roof, providing a wider area of effect (assuming more than one window open). It also helps avoid water droplets being sucked IN, as can happen when on the forward (blow-in) setting.

Thanks Gary,
That makes a lot of sense. I won't worry about it so :-)

My coach came with the larger exhaust only fan (Koolmatic) above the kitchen. It draws a lot of air and is 3 speed. It has a shroud over the top to keep weather out. One of the bedroom windows has the air deflector installed so we can leave that window open even if it is raining.
Running the exhaust fan with the window open makes a big difference in temp.
We also have a fantastic fan in the bathroom we can run, it is reversible. It does not have a shroud but does have rain sensor. If we try to run this fan at night in the AM dew will collect on the rain sensor and it will start opening/closing in the morning, which is annoying to say the least.

We do what Gary does - have the fan blowing out while pulling the air through windows. We rarely have the fan set to blow air in. We have two MaxxAir fans, and they work very well to keep air moving in the MH.
