Are these tires ok for a 1,000 mile trip?

Our 2018 Winnebago View has Continental tires. They are OEM with about 30,000 miles on them. No abnormal wear or other known defects. PSI always maintained properly like our lives depend on it. All were manufactured just under six years ago.

Tread measures like this:
Fronts - One is 5/32”, other is 7/32”
Rears - One is 5/32”, other three are 4/32”

So, do you feel they should be good for a trip of about 1,000 miles before getting all new ones?

Thanks

I would say, yes, if they don’t have any signs of cracking on the sidewalls or between the treads.

4/32" is the USDDOT minimum tread depth for truck steer tires, rears are 2/32", but with only 30,000 miles on them, that is a lot of wear. A total alignment might reduce tire wearl I think new tread depth is 14/32 for truck tires.
I agree, replacement time.

Replace them before your trip. Then you will NEVER have to say, "I really wish I would have replaced them before this my trip..."

One good thing is the weather is not hot now to overheat and blow a properly inflated tire. The bad thing is winter weather is wetter than summer, let alone snow. Is there enough tread to keep from hydroplaning? Is the price of a set of tires worth the risk of a blow out or accident?

How lucky are you?

If you will be replacing them anyhow this year, I would probably do it. Along with the tires, an alignment, as mentioned, will save you tire wear and tear on your new tires.

However, if waiting is in your plans, a trip like you mentioned is not a very long trip.

Knowing that the tires have been maintained well, I'd see about replacing just the two front tires. Replace the two most worn rears with the old steers.

I think you are safe to make the trip.

Is the internet to buy new ones when you get there? If so you might as well buy them now because they will likely age out before wearing out anyways.

You might as well drive around on the new tires!

If the plan is to park it for 4+ months you might as well wait.

Time to replace all of them. If you have to question then you know the answer. You'll be thinking of those tires all along the trip. Why risk it?

Well let's tally the responses.

- Replace All
- Replace some and shuffle them
- Replace None
- Depends on your future plans.

Yep, I would say you got your answer!!!

It's a class C with light truck tires, you still have some life in them as long as there not beat up.

1. They need to be replaced soon.
2. They cost $x to replace.
3. If they fail it could take days to get a good tire cost $x plus $?
4. If they fail they will cost $x plus towing, damage to the RV.
5. If you don't the cost per mile for the old ones will change by ____, so that times the six tires means you save how much?

So to quote Mr Eastwood "Do you feel lucky, punk?"
