I guess if you can't afford a Prevost you should not consider camping.

If you go to this link, scroll down to the larger picture then click on it you will get a pretty detailed image of the thing.
As seen at Wallie World - iRV2.com RV Photo Gallery
I suggest it has nothing to do with what you can afford, if you can’t afford something that does not endanger yourself and others don’t go camping. Not sure how the camper was attached to the frame of the van but if the rest is any example it wouldn’t pass muster. The lack of a tail pipe only affects him, but if that camper and / or plywood come off going down the road others may get hurt, in either case we should all show some concern.
There is no way it could pass N.Y.S. inspection and if put on the public highway it should be removed, on a flatbed, and the operator charged with reckless endangerment, don’t pass go don’t collect $200.

Are you implying that the camper in the photo is not a new model? In Al and Miss, they sell those as left over 2009s. Whats with it?

I have a big rig make, lots of money now, BUT I do remember when times were really bad. Right down to bankruptcy. I'd sit down with that guy in wal-mart parking lot have a hot dog and a beer with him a whole lot quicker then some people that drive huge rigs, that wouldn't give this poor soul second look. Cheers for this guy in the camper at least he is trying, and yes, he will laugh right along with the rest of us. I know cause I've been there.

Paintman, you said it all!!!! My big rig is sitting on a consignment lot right now because of hard times. I still surf the internet looking at big rigs and now smaller ones because rving gets into your veins. I bet that ole boy in walmart parking lot has his paid for and he was just picking up supplies.

Could be a Walmart employee and they collect vintage or unusual campers.

I agree with buckeyedduffer; it was less than two years ago that I had a major heart attack (5 bypasses), and not only did my wife and I end up without the proverbial pot, we did not have the window either. Today, we are full timing, with only $10K of debt hanging over us. We have been vacationing in New Mexico for a month, and it is ALL BECAUSE OF THE GRACE OF GOD.............

This thread has taken a decidedly more benevolent and charitable tone with recent posts... although none of them were truly venomous. ...Just a little discomforting in their ridicule of people without much regard for the circumstances which brought them to a Wal-Mart parking lot in a very humble rig.
This natural settling of the issue is allowing the "cream" of this community to rise to the top. It is apparently an irrepressible law of nature ...in dairy products and in human nature, I suppose. I'm just happy to be associated with you guys.
None of us has immunity from changing fortunes. Many more will suffer declining fortunes if economic bell-weathers are to be believed ...and I believe they are. Given that, best we take care not to disparrage anyone's mode of life or means of transport. It may come back to haunt us.
I believe it is incumbent on each of us to make our way in this journey as unobtrusively as we can. You believe what you wish... I'm comfortable with me.
I can be as totally oblivious of the home-made "shanty-coach" as I can be of the mega-million "DreamCoach" ... or I can choose to express any level of concern for or interest in either of the two extremes.
I'm planted somewhere in-between and I like it here just fine.
Respectfully,
Jim

Thanks for the comments, RV Wizard and buckeyeduffer,
This iRV2 forum is the most well-managed sounding board I have ever seen. I am constantly impressed with the character of the members and their willingness to share their insights ...and I often express my sincere gratitude for being allow to be associated with you.
As to the whole Wal-Mart issue, I don't think the "looks" of the rig are as damaging to the continued privilege of "resting" there as is the "behavior" of the RVers who occupy a given rig. I would rather be parked next to the "shanty coach" RVer who is quietly maintaining a low profile than a MegaMillion coach in full-bloom camping mode ...awnings, chairs, outside camp kitchen, etc. (the bedroom slide is certainly understandable.)
I will leave both of them alone unless there is something with which I can assist them.
Thanks again,
Jim

Nothing wrong with poking fun about the old rig but when you start complaining about losing your privilege to park at Walmart based on this guy parking his old rig ( maybe hes just shopping who knows or cares) at Walmart then you start getting into selfish territory.
