Asking for a tip on camping sites in FL
Hi. We just bought a 32 ft Class C and have camped at Anastasia FL St. Park, which we really enjoyed. We would love to camp near the ocean on the central west or east coast of Florida. As newbies, we had no idea that these campsites (private and state parks) would be so far booked in advance (4 month+). If anyone is cancelling a stay in this area between March 1 to March 6, would you please let us know. Thank you in advance! Also, as long time residents of FL, we would be more than willing to share information on weather, location of campsites and anything else about FL that those wanting to camp here may want to know.

Also check county parks. Sometimes, if you go from Sunday to Thursday night, more openings appear.

First

Sorry I can offer no help being about as far diagonally across the continent from you as one can get. Lots of luck with your search.

I remember reading in the past that reservations are snapped up as early as a year or maybe 11 months in advance. That is as soon as the reservation system allows. People have said that those who have reservations "just in case" they want to camp do cancel from time to time. I think that I remember reading that cancelled spots are put back into the system at 8:00 AM. If you check every day at that time then you might find something.
I remember now that the information was in an online article I found about Florida State Parks. Maybe do a search for Florida State Park reservations and you might find it. It gave a lot of information about the ins and outs of finding spots. I will look too and if I find it I will post it here.

It is www.floridarambler.com. The article is RV Camping: Tips for booking campsites in Florida this winter. It mentions that as a Florida resident you might even score a last minute cancellation as you do not have as far to travel as some others do. Hope it helps.

Thanks!
I have followed up by calling several FL state campgrounds. Your advice was right on, for most of the campgrounds were booked through April. Gamble State Park told me that they went by a "first come, first serve" policy. They advised that we wait a day or two before our desired date and then call to see if there might be a no show or cancellation. If so, we could take that reservation. I really appreciate your advice!
