Auto levelers question
I was wondering if I should put some type of coating on the leveling jacks to keep them clean and lubed?

I use a rag and WD40 just to clean any dirt/dust from the shaft. This keeps them clean to protect the seals for the ram. No other lube needed.

Silicone based spray. More accurately - read the leveling system owner's manual.

Agreed to go by the manual because it depends on who made your system. Ours by HWH states to clean by spraying with WD40 & wiping with a clean/dry rag. Your system may be different.

I've never done anything and haven't had a problem in the last 20 years. If you feel the need you should consult the owners manual as to what to use. Sometimes those seals are finicky.

very easy maintenance. i spray on some silicon lubricant then take a rag and wipe it and any dirt on the legs off. then another quick spray of silicon and let it sit. from what i have read this is more important to do in salty environments.

From what I've seen, all the jack manufacturers advise keeping the ram clean to prevent dirt from damaging the seals. But does your jack ram actually get dirty? And how often does it need cleaning? Every time they are used?
Generally the jacks are under the RV and mostly protected from weather, splashed dirt, chemicals, etc. IMO, it's probably not necessary to ever clean jack rams in what I think of as typical campsite conditions. But on a sandy beach, or in salt-laden air, or where there is a lot of blowing dirt or liquid spray, dirt and corrosion are possible or maybe even likely.
If it were easy-peasy I'd say sure, wipe them down every time to avoid potential problems. But let's face it, crawling under the rig each time when getting ready to depart the campsite isn't a small thing for most of us. That's a maintenance chore that I'm only going to do if there is a strong reason for it, and [for me] that will be rare. I think I've done it once in 20-some years of RVing.

I think they are referring to longer stationary use. Like snow birds that are away for a fee months in one spot. Not every time you use them. I only do mine after a long time being extended.

HWH recommends using WD-40, only. Other manufacturers are not as specific.
