I just use a broom if it's bad but mostly just roll it up and deal with squished bugs at the next cleaning.
I also roll mine up at night or if I'm gone. I hate getting up at night in the rain or looking out the window deciding if I should go outside and roll it up.
I've been flying a drone for a while, there are some useful sites for wind predictions that come in handy for awning decisions.
One is windfinder.com and the other is uavforecast.com they also have apps that are easy to use. They are both very accurate in predicting wind and direction several hours out. I'll check before going in for the night.
