Awning to siding screws pulling out-How I fixed

So a few of the awning horizontal mounting screws started to pull out of the fiberglass siding on our 5er. After searching the different repairs people have done, I settled on using molly rivets. Of the 30+ self drilling screws on the horizontal bracket, only one hit frame/stud material. Only 2 of the 8 lag bolts that mount the top of the vertical supports hit frame/stud. Those 2 were on one side. The other 6 lags just spun when attempting to tighten. I replaced ALL of the SD screws with the molly rivets along with the 6 lag bolts and 3 more places on each the verticals that were drilled but no fasteners installed. Almost 50 rivets used. New Dicor tape also on the horizontal bracket. Took 2 of us 3 hours to do. Under $30.

I could not understand how some of the repairs people suggested or used even worked or would hold up as a permanent repair.

Others may have another fix for this problem as well.
I better not have to do this again on this rig!

Thanks for reading!

What size rivets did you use? I have a 2021 River forrest with the same problem. The holes where the bolts are pulling out are fairly large for a rivet. I believe the screw is 3/16
