Back up monitor usage

Do you feel completely safe using yours?
I haven't gotten life into mine yet, neither with unit plugged in or just motor running and I have backed up the rig quite a few times just fine alone or with my son at the ready to tell mom to STOP (except for the last time when I bumped the side of the house, came extremely close to the electric wiring and then ripped the ugly old, torn awning off the side of the MH pulling forward to move over and re try, LOL)
Can you or do you live without yours?
Standard vehicle booklet shows nothing for the one forward facing fuse panel and I have nothing to tell me what the side facing panel deals with.Click image for larger version

When we bought our coach it was one of the first things I addressed. I bought a new LCD monitor (color) and a new rear facing color camera. I left the B/W side cameras in.

I did a couple things recently that help greatly in reversing. I setup a bucket on each side at 3', 6', 9' right down the side of the coach. I then marked the spot on the monitor on both sides where this was. That way when I am backing up I know where the edge of the coach is and how far to the mark. A bonus for this is it lets me glance down at the monitor and know if I'm tracking the rear of the coach inside my lines of the road.

I used this to back into the yard this afternoon unaccompanied. Normal backing is handled by my wife as per the instruction we received from the LazyDay's RV driver confidence course.

I only use it when I want to.

I found the factory scenario of always being on, switching from rear to side, to be distracting. I cut the power wire and spliced in a toggle switch.

Can't help you with the fuse panels.

I can back pretty much anywhere with the monitor and side mirrors. I keep it on all the time so I can keep an eye on the toad and can even tell when I clear traffic and can change lanes.

I use mine for hooking up toad, parking and watching hitch/toad while travelling. I also installed a 9 inch monitor and another camera to use like a rear view mirror. $80.00 total cost!

Check the wiring behind the monitor , there may be an inline fuse for the BU camera system there.

Mine is on all the time; it is my rear view mirror while driving, so to speak. It is handy when backing up, but only as an additional tool; I don't rely on it.

This.
I drove dump trucks and vans without windows for years, so I'm accustomed to using the side mirrors.
I think of this as just another mirror, that happens to be electric.

That's exactly what I think Podivin,
