Backup beeper?
My first month in the RV life so lotsa new stuff...but that one seems bizarre.
Good sized class A backing in yesterday afternoon with the "beeep beeep beeep" action going on.
Do/did some RVs come with such a thing? Or was that something the owner added? They pulled out early this morning so I didn't get a chance to ask.
I'm thinking that if you're backing up without a spotter and without a camera, a "get the hell out of the way" beeper would still be useless since in my experience, trees and rocks rarely pay such beepers any attention.
I'm reminded of this

most don't anymore, people just get annoyed with them, especially when arriving at a campground or rv park late at night - you're automatically on the wrong side of the neighbors from the get go...

I installed a backup buzzer but included an on-off switch on the dash so that it can be disabled when not needed

I can verify that trees do not pay attention to anything when backing a motor home. (-:
I don't have first hand experience with rocks, but I suspect they are similar to trees in this respect.

My 2004 American Tradition has one, but I disconnected it several years ago.

If mine had one, I'd cut the power wire to it. They are like car alarms...nobody pays any attention to them except to think about how annoying the $!/##$ thing is. I don't like hearing them (back up alarms) in the afternoon, don't get me started on after the sun goes down. Invariably, the driver will come to a stop while their spotter is checking around the rig leaving that darn thing beeping!! I don't know if these folks really think they are safer (children behind a truck or MH have no idea what all that beeping is about...is the trash truck here?) or if they think it conveys some sort of status...
The other poster is correct...rocks don't care, trees don't care and if I can't see them in my rear camera or my spotter has gone blind, that dummy just standing there oblivious to my 20 ton MH backing up on them, at a crawl, deserves to be removed from the gene pool.
They've always been of little to no value and most firms have discontinued using them in lieu paying more attention to their surroundings, better mirrors that are positioned to see across the back and across the front, and my favorite, a good quality camera with a wide field of view, with or without the microphone. I like the microphone...makes it so much better to be able to hear the DW without having to interpret hand signals. Nothing will ever replace diligence and a good spotter.

Do you want to sound like a trash truck backing up? Knock your socks off.
Anytime you are backing up, you should have a spotter. If you don't, then ask someone to help

Wow....this went sideways fast. Just so you know, Freightliner installs them on their chassis. My Newmar came with one. I initially went through all the thoughts of removing it or adding a switch to it, but it's just not that big a deal. A third of all campsites I use are pull thru and the rest only take me about 30 seconds to get into.
If the 30 seconds of beeping, to prevent stupid people from walking behind the coach, bothers you, than camping isn't relieving your stress enough or you're just a curmudgeon.

For those that want to have a back up beeper you can buy a white reverse light that has a beeper built into the bulb housing from most auto parts stores.
I use one so I can't hear the wife when backing up.

This post reminder me of a funny instance shortly after we got out class A. I was backing into the driveway with my son watching to ensure I didn't hit anything. I heard a crunch and wondered what I backed into. Turns out it was the rain gutter on the house. My son was looking at the lower half of the RV and didn't see the rain gutter or eve of the house.

A couple years age I was moving coach into barn and my grandson was playing behind me, when i saw this I ordered a back-up beeper from Ryder parts for $32.00. Easy hookup to the reverse lights.
