"Fallow".
That makes sense.
The other thing is that it definitely could not be spread on fields that were used to produce food for human consumption.
I really don't know much about it, I just recall hearing that it was/(is?) a common practice.
Kinda off-topic I suppose...

Actually dried human waste biosolids from treatment plants is used to fertilize a small percentage of food crops. I was told that it was used for organic farming but haven't been able to back that up. And it doesn't make sense because how on earth can it be certified organic all the meds people eliminate daily.
We live on a lake and the waste treatment is several miles away but we drive past it regularly. You can pick up biosolids fertilizer directly from them.

The ideal thing, provided you don't use any chemicals, would be to come home from camping, hook up your macerator and spray it across a 50x50 ft area and then take the soil after it matures and garden with it. Its your poop and after a while in the sun the bio hazard is eliminated.

Biosolids fertilizer from a treatment plant is one thing -- black water from an RV is another!
We have a composting toilet in a detached guest room and the mfr says that once the finished "product" is removed, it can be used as fertilizer, but not for anything intended for human consumption.

Actually they do. The waste that they dump is a perfectly fine thing to do. Around here it's referred to as "sludge" It's more a mental image type of thing for people.
Hog confinements are common in my area. The pits under the confinements are pumped empty into "honey wagons" which are taken to fields to use as fertilizer which is high in nitrogen. Livestock manure has been used for generations to fertilize crops and gardens.
Years ago one of the stores here in town was selling "fertilizer" which had on the bag roughly "Cincinnati's finest, produced by and with the compliments of the good people of Cincinnati"

He was a fireman and heard his PD buddies saying they busted this one guy that was leaking some stuff that melted their windshield wiper blades.
He also told me me he watched the river burn more than once (and then mentioned they used to swim and water ski in that same river)
Of course none of that happens anymore....that we know of. Seems to make this greywater thing kind of tame.....

Google "Times Beach Missouri" a whole town became a ghost town due this type of activity. Just about 15 miles away from St Louis. Once had about two thousand residents..................completely evacuated by the Government for health risks.

The only thing that should be going into a storm drain is storm water runoff. That's why your washing machine at home doesn't empty into the street..

Growing up in a small town in Illinois back in the day it was common when out of town to see manure spreaders in the fields. Back then farmers used everything that was free instead of spending thousands of dollars buying and spreading fertilizer. Back in the early 1970's I spent time in South Korea. They used manure from humans as well as animals on the fields, the biggest danger back then was hepititus. Jim.

If you have never lived in farm country you probably have never experienced having your windows open and suddenly the air is filled with a strong odor. You then realize your neighbor has his manure spreader out on the field between your house and his spreading the cow manure. The worst stink I ever smelled was when our German Shepherd came home one day stinking so bad we couldn't let him in the house. I asked my neighbor if he had ever experienced this and he just chuckled and explained that dogs love to roll around in dead animals. WHAT? He apologized that he had just dumped some dead baby pigs out in the field and our dog had been enjoying himself. YIKES! So, a little grey water thrown out in the woods when primitive camping doesn't really bother me. If a fellow camper has a black water tank that's leaking, which we've experienced, now that is another matter.

I passed a TT yesterday on I25 in castle rock co that was leaking what I think was his gray tank. I was leaking fast enough that it was hitting the car behind him.

That's a shame - Big biz taking profits over safety. The one example of the sub charging $3000 per load and paying another sub $125 to actually pick it up and dispose of it, not caring how it was disposed.

As others have said, totally not true. There might be one or two temporarily closed for some reason or another; I have seen that plus they do close in the winter. But the two closest to me still have open dump stations.

It must be true if you read it on the internet.
There are criminal penalties for violating safety standards. There are no criminal penalties for fake news.
