Bad place for a bird's nest
Here is a new one. I noticed a bird fly into our DP's back grill. When I took a look there was a huge bird's nest that he built over the last 12 hours on top of the radiator. Needless to say we had to remove the bicycles mounted on the rack and open the grill to remove the nest. I wonder what kind of fire that would have caused tomorrow when we took off.
So now I have a new item to add to my "pre flight" check list.

The radiator better not get hot enough to ignite bird nest materials! It would be a mess to clean up, but not a fire hazard.

During a thunderstorm in east Texas we had a cat crawl onto the top of our ISX engine and have kittens. What a mess.

That could not have been a good scene. I had a rat get caught in my fan blade once, he limped away a few feet and that was it.

I suspected a mouse set up residency in my pickup motor. When I started my truck yesterday to move to a new CG, the mouse jumped out and ran to the neighbors truck, neighbor wasn't happy, oh well!
As far as bird nest, I would be more concerned about nest being sucked into the cooling fins and plugging the radiator fins.

Jenny Wren built himself / herself a nice nest in my air intake. Fortunately I found a lot of poop under the hood while checking fluid levels. Investigating, I found where they were nesting. Thanks to them, I learned how to open a V-10 air cleaner. Nest was still in progress so no eggs or little ones. A 1/4" mesh screen over opening should keep them out.

You should have waited longer. You could have had fresh cooked eggs at your next destination. Talk about a free lunch program.

Had a bird start a nest in my exhaust.Cut flaps into a tuna can and slipped it into the pipe. The flaps go outside to keep the can from going in too far.

2 yrs ago we were getting ready to take a trip. Went over to the rv and found a dove had built a nest in the step under the drivers door. It had 2 eggs in it.
So on to google and find out it is like a 3 week process for the eggs to hatch and the doves to leave, so we waited.
Sure enough the eggs hatched, watched the babies grow and off they went.
Took out the nest and thought we were good to go, only to come back a few days later and find another nest. There were no eggs in this one, so out went the nest and since then we put rocks in the 2 steps. Problem solved
This week we started getting ready for another trip. I opened the hood to check the oil and to my surprise there was another dove nest sitting on top of the air filter case, no eggs so out went the nest
I guess it proves the point that new life will always find a way.
