I know this discussion has been around for years..some poo-poo it right away with disclaim..others stand by chemical evaluation of acetone-alcohol-gasoline energy properties..Below is the best (most comprehensive) chemical discussion/presentation of acetone as gas additive I have found.

This topic really doesn't belong in this forum, but I'll bite.

Here's another perspective to ponder

But maybe if you send me a bunch of money, I'll sell you some snake oil. It's expensive though, milking it from the local rattlesnakes is dangerous!

ALOHA, pubtyme: i have been using acetone, 3oz per 10 gal, in my 2002 altima 3.5 v6 in hawaii for several years with no adverse side effects. in my experience it is worth .75 to 1.5 mpg increase in mpg. one of the reasons why my mileage varies so much is that my dw gets significantly better mileage when she drives than i do. our mileage varies without acetone from 17 to 20. with acetone we have gotten as much as 24 mpg. it is seldom less than 20 mpg. i started to use acetone in my moho in oct 2006. have put less than 1k miles on it so do not have any good mileage figures yet. i also use seafoam as a fuel stabilizer in the moho. i started out with 4.5 mpg on short trips. i then added a k&n air filter panel, amsoil 0w30 syn oil, and a banks ecm controller upgrade. on my last topoff i got 5.95 mpg. my moho had 7800 miles on it when i got in in oct 06. i have found that it had not been maintained very well. anyway, the mpg is going the right way. i still need to fix the cruise control, change the tranny oil to amsoil and maybe change the two 3 inch mufflers to low restriction magnaflows. i am concerned that they may be too loud. i am going to install a scan gauge 2 this summer. back to the topic: acetone. imoh the amount of increase in mpg will depend on how efficiently the engine system was vaporizing fuel to start with and the quality of the gasoline used. i always use "top tier" gas. carbureted engines such as my onan genny stand to gain more than most fuel injected engines. adding 10% ethanol to the mix does not help at all.
