Bed Sheets

We have a 72 x 80 King mattress. My wife is looking for some nice flannel sheets that fit without being oversize and sloppy. Can anyone recommend a place that has nice fitting sheets? Mattress is 9 inches thick. Thanks for any input.

WalMart will have fitted flannel sheets. That's what we bought and they weren't 'sloppy'. What you need to do is read the label for size. If yours are 9" that's what you need to look for. Or just Google the size and lots will come up.

That question is like asking someone to recommend a 40' RV. That could mean $10k or $2M. What does nice mean?

Flannel sheets are usually a high%% of cotton. Cotton will shrink generally around 4%. That being said...a small amount of "oversize & sloppy" is needed at first. Otherwise, your nice fitting sheets after several washes will no longer fit at all. As a general rule: "King size fitted sheet size - 78 inch wide and 82 inch long and and 8-17 inch depth". So, don't try to exactly fit your mattress dimensions. The average sheet set will shrink down to fit.

So, are you saying that if I buy fitted sheets that fit my bed, if I wash them they’ll shrink and don’t fit anymore? That sounds silly to me. I have fitted sheets that have fit beds for years and not shrunk so they don’t fit anymore.

We have been through many sheets and have yet to see any of them shrink that much. We are looking for good quality sheets that will fit this size mattress which is a king size RV mattress. Thanks for the suggestion and we will keep looking around at sights that offer these.

Most bedding has enough synthetic materials (no-iron sheets) they won't shrink. 100% cotton *will* shrink - that comes with the fiber. Most 100% cotton sheets were slightly oversized to start with and after a couple of washings will be snug.

The issue with RV beds is the odd sizes (short/narrow). Regular fitted sheets made for thick beds (14", really?) compound the problem. One solution is flat sheets for top and bottom. Inconvenient? Yes. Complain to RV manufacturers who use odd size beds.

You have an RV king which is narrower than a regular king. It is why your sheets don’t fit. Look at AB Lifestyles for sheets of the right size. They make lots of sizes to fit RVs and boats. I haven’t looked for flannel sheets, but we have used their regular sheets for years on different sizes of beds. They haven’t pulled or been coarse like some brands.

The two links I provided are flannel sheets in the correct size. Enjoy.

These are what she is looking for, something that fits the RV King. Thank you for these links.

Did you note the statement that "in general, cotton will shrink 4%" ??? I did not say specifically "cotton sheets". If the content of your FLANNEL sheets are ONLY cotton you can expect up to 4% shrinkage. That means, anything that includes a synthetic blend will not shrink to that extent...the more "man made, synthetic" content the less shrinkage there will be. It's not that hard to understand. So, how am I an expert in the area of fabric? I have been sewing and quilting for 40+ years...does lend me a smidge of knowledge in this area. Why did I make the comment? I didn't want the person making the original query to end up buying sheets that would eventually not fit after several washes...a very disappointing and expensive lesson.
