Best Quality / favorite jack stands?

i’d like to begin work under our new-to-us ‘95 dynasty and it’s clear i need jack stands. i’m thinking 12 ton stands and after reading online reviews it’s clear there are lots of vendors to choose from.

so, whatcha got, do recommend them and if so, what do you feel are their best features?

thx in advance for your feedback.

First take a look for where you could place jack stands. On my unit almost all of the underside is storage bays and too flimsy for jacking. The few places where the frame is visible is too high and/or inaccessible.

have a nice day - Darrel

I wanted lots of safety margin so purchased 22 ton jack stands. The rating is for the pair of stands not each stand.

This is what I bought on Amazon and am very happy with them.

hi darrel,

thx very much for the specific feedback! so that begs the question about how you elevate your coach to work underneath it (assuming you do)?

I use the Harbor Freight 12-ton (6 tons each) jack stands!

Confused.....

If I go to Sears or Amazon or HF or wherever, if a pair of jack stands is rated at 12 tons, for example, does that mean EACH jack stand can hold 12 tons, or each one can hold 6 tons?

So if I want to hold up 24000 pounds, do I buy a pair of 12 ton jacks or will a pair of 6 ton jacks be adequate?

Thanks

GREAT question.

reading online articles (often with links to mfg pages) it seems the answer to your question is IT DEPENDS.

this forum post by doitmyself links to examples for weight-per-pair and weight per stand.

https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ub...Number=1389140

so my take is to read your set understand what you’ve got.

If your rig weighs 24000, 6 ton stands would probably work. You won't be supporting the full weight of the rig on the stands of you are only lifting the front or back. If you want to go 12 ton, harbor freight sells a pair for 100 bucks. A quick search online can yield a 20% off coupon, so 80. I have 2 pairs of the 6 ton stands. They are very good quality, based on them I would not hesitate to but a larger set.

we have a '95 38' dynasty and iirc gross weight of ~29k lbs

seeing the pics of the homemade ramps I find myself thinking, "I can build those and save some $$s" vs my, "oh, those shiny bullet-proof stands would be GREAT!".

we are just completing an unexpected (dishwasher hose leak, mold, kitchen gutted, etc) kitchen remodel and purchase of our coach so saving a bit of $$'s has some appeal.
