I was introduced to AAA when I was a tike in the '60s. We used to vacation and use their trip-tick program. I now have AAA RV Plus because we have a boat and motorcycles too. Any time I have used AAA the service itself was superb. The wait time was sometimes annoying on top of being stranded, but if you're over an hour from civilization, you'd expect it to take over an hour to get someone onsite. Reality, when teamed up with physics, sucks sometimes.

Overall I can't imagine using anyone else. I generally have it removed from any insurance policy although sometimes it's part of a package that lowers the overall cost so I leave it, but I don't think I've ever even tried any others.

I don't think there is really much difference in the major roadside assistance providers. I have been with Good Sam since 2000 and have gotten good service most of the time.

I just changed to FMCA for a lot less money. Yes, you have to be an FMCA member, but other benefits are worth the cost of membership.

Two years ago we insured our new fifth wheel with Progressive. USAA recommended them as they did not offer RV insurance. The day we left the dealer's lot, a bit of road debris punctured a small hole in the truck's fuel tank. With permission we unhitched the fifth wheel at a Boise ID Home Depot parking lot and quickly got the truck to the shop. We drove the rental car back to Home Depot and called Progressive. Within a couple hours a tow truck showed up and took our fifth wheel to a nice little in-town campground. Maybe Progressive still offers RV insurance with tow service.

I"m planning to check Progressive when I get back to home in 6 - 8 weeks... I'll likely stay with Coach-Net for the year, but it would be good to see if Progressive is a reasonable alternative...

It seems that being fairly close to a city makes it easier to access any of them no matter which option since they all have to send a truck out to help.

Exactly. They don't have their own fleet of tows. They use the same as another company.

Well, hopefully I"ll never need Coach-net, 'cause when I do I'm pretty sure I"ll be at least 30 miles away from anywhere and it'll be a significantly bad situation.

Of course, 1 of the times I needed Good Sam I was in the middle of the main road of a suburb of Minneapolis, on a bright, clear, weekday afternoon - a place where there should have been a tow there in minutes. So even in THAT situation Good Sam failed. We ended up making a call and getting a tow ourselves - took them about 15 minutes to get there after we gave up on Good Sam and called our own tow...

My insurance company pays for towing.... but they pay only $100 of the bill. READ THE FINE PRINT.

I like Coach Net, they are not the cheapest but are reliable where I roam.
