Best RV Wax
Removed the oxidation and started waxing using Maquires marine wax with a DA polisher but while it's giving me a nice shine it's not giving me that wet look I see on other RV's and will last more than a couple months.
Thank's in advance for all replies,

Are you comparing full body paint on other coaches with white gel coat on your coach? All I can say is full body paint with clear coat makes for a beautiful finish. I've had gel coat trailers and boat for years, elbow grease helps but wax only lasts so long. Kinda depressing, actually!

That is so true.
I busted my rear keeping my gelcoat fifth wheels looking shiny. My motorhome has full body paint. What a difference. Always super shiny with a lot less effort.
To the OP. I used Maguires Marine wax as well on gelcoat. Helps with the oxidization for sure, but you need to do it regularly.

if you have oxidation (chalky residue0 on the gelcoat, your not really going to tackle it with a DA. you'll need to go to a rotary with a wool pad. you can polish later with the DA if you like, but it really wont touch the oxidation. the wax also wont give you the wet, or depth of shine you are looking for. its all in the prep - compound or polishing.
what are you working on?

I used this ShineOn product on my 08 Cameo 2 years ago and it still has that wet look. I am going to redo the front cap, but still not bad for 2 years of no waxing. A 30' trailer kit cost $100 and is also used on boats.

Any car wax that works for any other vehicle you may own. I normally use a Meguire's product as they are easily available worldwide. apply and buff well and best of all, last. There are many other 'wonder waxes' that will do as well but some of those company's come and go. Some folks suggest a floor wax, but .... it's for floors. A couple rigs I've seen have yellowed with that kind of wax. But with all that said, if the gel coat has turned chalky, you may need to get aggressive with compound and maybe even sand it with some 1000 to 2000 grit wet and dry paper (used wet) then apply something like Poly Glow to seal the surface then wax - lots of work but worth it in the end..

Try a GM wax available at a GM dealer. Easy to put on and easy to hand buff. It will give you the look you are looking for and only costs under $10.00 Canadian.

You can polish all you want but if you have not compounded the oxidation out of it all you are doing is trying to polish oxidation.
A good pure wax like Meguires Flagship does nothing to clean or remove oxidation. It trys to put a shine on whatever the surface condition it is applied to.
My 2007 trailer is still in good shape. 7 months a year of indoor storage helps. Sides & rear cap get waxed with Flagship once a year. The front cap takes the beating with the bugs. It gets 3M marine cleaner wax followed by Flagship 2-3 times a year.
If the oxidation is severe there is no easy way. There is no way to get that just out of mold look if it has been let go too long. Gelcoat thickness seems to be much thinner on RVs than boats. Gelcoat is expensive & it is heavy.

Best RV Wax
Believe or not I use this stuff. Zep commercial floor wax. I use the wet floor look wax. I needed something that was safe with fiberglass. A lot of RV experts recommend Zep. I did my entire 30 foot Motorhome RV with half a bottle. I applied the wax on mine over 4 months ago and my RV still has that Beverly Hills shine. Just use a cloth or mop to wipe it on evenly and then allow it dry completely to the touch. It will stand up against rain, weather and the elements.

Last time I looked, floors, generally, are located INSIDE buildings, and MH are located OUTSIDE buildings. Why would ZEP add any ingredients to protect against UV? Why would any vehicle use ANY finish product that does not protect against UV? Like dryer sheets for mice and skins-so-soft for mosquito repellant.

Mine has been through a few really tough rain storms since I applied the wax. I'm amazed how pretty this shine still looks. I think the trick with Zep is you have to strip off the oxidation first. Use a commercial striper. Zep has to be applied to a really clean surface for it to work right. I spent hours washing my RV down so I could make the wax job would turn out right. It's almost as heavy duty as candle wax. Once it goes on, it's not coming off.
