I replaced the anchor with a Chevrolet V-8, and that seemed to perk it right up.

I replaced the rear axle with a Ford nine-inch, and the front suspension with parts from a donor Corvette.
I replaced the ten-speed tires and wheels with the biggest available.
I fabricated a one-piece hood with massive flares to cover the massive tires.
I fabricated massive rear fenders to cover those massive meats.

For racing at Laguna Seca and Sears Point -- plus our SCCA ralleys around the Cal-Expo parking-lot -- it wore gum-balls.
For cruising, it wore BFGs.

Other than that, I tend toward commercial Michelin tires.

An aside:
Although this article is about a '1956', my rig was identical.
The white patches on the doors were for a yuge '3', my national ranking at the time.
