Black out blinds in bedroom advice

Hi,

The bedroom blinds in our 2008 Itasca Latitude let too much light through.

Would it be better to replace them with day night shades? Or mount a black out blind in front of it and keep the existing shades?

Thanks,

My DW just made some curtains with her favorite fabric on one side and black fabric on the other. Hang with a tension rod and it makes our bedroom very dark!

We bought some blackout material, cut it to just cover the frame of the window, and used duct tape to hang it behind the day/night shades.

We removed the day/night shade from the bedroom and I ordered a custom fit roller shade from blinds.com. Works great!

I was able to specify the color (inside and out), width (61.5"), height (27") and how it was getting mounted (we installed it on the valance that existed so as they call it inside mount). Cost about $115 with tax delivered to my home.

I ordered blinds from Camping World the other week that have black out option, I ordered the same color/fabric as what is there, just added the blackout.
CW gets them from United Shade, they were VERY pricey but need my sleep.
Haven't received them yet, they say they are very backlogged.

In our old Cougar my wife made curtains out of black felt that hung on a tension rod. These were cheap and we still have the felt since we sold the camper without the black felt curatins in the trailer.

Curtains could do the trick.

I just replaced all my pleated day/night blinds with Levolor shades I got at Lowe's. I used the "room darkening" type. Lowe's cut them all to fit and they black out 100% of the light if pulled all the way down.

I removed the valances and old blinds. Installed the new shades in the valance and reinstalled the valance. They come in several colors and they custom cut them. Since the valance is about 2.5" wide on each side you just need to get close with the width. Don't remember the total cost but probably around $500 for the whole coach.

500$ for the whole coach is great. I will definitely show the wife this.

I thumb tacked larger dark green towels to the valance. Works for me. If I ever have to get out one of those windows the thumb tacks will pop right off.

Go to Lowes.
Get a roll of reflectix.
Create cutouts for each of your windows of concern.
Put the cutouts behind your existing blinds.
Now, not only have you blacked out the light for your cave, you just made it easier for the air conditioner to keep it cool.

I did that in my last coach. I now have dual pane windows. The advice I have been given is not to use reflectix. I have a load of already cut out pieces in my basement.

Since we don't mind being tacky we simply cut out Reflectix to fit the windows. We're dark and cooler.

If we wanted to actually open and close the shades we'd install MCD shades.
