About all he can do is to go to the DMV with the vin number ( THATS ALL HE HAS) and hope they will give out some info, they should be able to see the last registered name (owner) on the registration. some DMV's won't give it out. he may have to go to the police dept. i would want to know for sure it's not reported stolen. the DMV likely won't know, the police can confirm this.
