is the sending unit above oil filter? plug might have come off...

do not run the engine unless it is to check pressure on mechanical gauge

check oil level
pull filter see if filled
change filter
top up oil
check wires on senders
add mechanical gauge

Looks like the OP may have bailed on us. I wonder if we'll ever find out what the problem is/was?

I Hope Not

I have the same chassis and motor/tranny. I was hoping to hear about the solution. It was probably something stupid and he is embarrassed.

So i finally got a chance to check some of the things you guys suggested. Oil level good, both new and old filter have their gaskets. New filter has oil in it. So I put a better, Purolator filter just in case. Also while under there I disconnected and then reconnected the sending unit. Now it registers 129psi and the check engine light is still on. Leads me to think its the sending unit and I just ordered one from Amazon. Should be here this weekend. I will let you folks know the results. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

sending units.

There are sometimes separate sending units for the light and the pressure gauge.

Thanks for the update.

129 PSI oil pressure is kinda way up there. Hopefully the sender will help.

Sending unit

Have you changed the viscosity of the oil? On one of my JEEPS, back when, I always used 10w50 in vehicles before, when time came to change oil in the then new JEEP, I naturally went with 'my' gold standard. Well, the sending unit bottomed out while driving on Interstate. Being 6 months old, I thought...no way. Got home and bought new unit, BAM...no more problem. Just a thought

sending unit

No, nothing hit or anything....engine was running fine, looked at gauge and it was not registering any pressure..drove home (about 10-15 miles) went to parts house, got new sending unit-changed viscosity to what was called for by manufacturer and no more problem. In fact that vehicle when son got it had 160K + and only had plugs and belt changed out.

So I finally got a chance to swap out the sending unit and sure enough the warning light went out. Reading 46 psi oil pressure at idle. Thanks again for the help folks.

Great news. Loss of oil pressure can give a guy heart failure.
