Brake Lights Won't Turn off
Turned the lights on two nights ago while driving. After we parked we noticed back lights were still on. Checked to be sure lights were off and they were just back lights not turning off.
Checked fuses they went off when fuses were pulled, put back they stay back on. No idea why the lights won't shut off.
We Disconnect the light bulbs at night as to not disturb neighbors, however, don't want to do this all the time...Help!
Please....

I'm not current on the newer vehicles. In the olden days there was a switch that was activated by the brake pedal. Switch is bad OR floor mat is pushed againest the switch and not allowing it to shut off?

I'm with WantAB, had a Honda automobile and woke up to a dead battery one morning. As soon as jumper cables were hooked up the brake lights came on. Bad switch that was located at the back of the brake pedal arm. That has been a few years ago so maybe they don't activate the lights that way anymore.

Sounds like a brake switch problem, the switch should be located up towards the top of the brake pedal on a brace, when you push on the brake the switch closes when the pedal is pushed away from the switch, they can go bad or they can get pushed back from the mount and the brake pedal won't push the switch in far enough to open the switch. You can use a multi-meter to test the switch, unplug the switch and see if you have close to 0 resistance with the switch plunger out and an open with the switch plunger pushed in, or you can just have the someone watch the lights and you can manually push/release the switch plunger with your finger to see if they go out.

The first thing I'd check would be that switch on the brake pedal. I once had a car with the opposite problem - no brake lights. I found a broken wire in the connector to that switch. Possibly yours has a short that's allowing constant power to the lights.

It could be the brake switch or the brake light relay, usually located in the fuse panel. It will be a square "box" about 1 inch square or 1 inch bu 1.5 inches. Try tapping each relay and see if lights go out. But check each one separate then if lights go out, you know which relay it was. You could also try taping up under brake petal, if its a stuck switch it might let go.

Damon Astoria With air brakes? Possibly the brake light switch - Bendix SL-5 or equivalent. Converts pneumatic signal to electrical.
Google it and lots of pictures of what it looks like. Mine in located in my running bay under drivers seat on my country coach.

Still no fix
Mechanic came, after over an hour he left. Said bring to freightliner he was at a loss. He did check the brake light switch. Sent us a PDF of what he did to show to freightliner....looks like we'll be pulling the light bulbs when camped until we can get to a freightliner dealership.

I have a brake light relay in engine bay mounted to wall as well as each turn signal relay.I'm not positive but think there is a separate one for rear hazards also. The don't usually fail closed but not impossible.

Probably easier to pull the fuse.

So is it the brake lights or the tail lights? If it is the tail lights and the brake lights come on when you press the brake then it could be the light switch itself. Are the marker lights on as well? More info would be helpful. It is possible that the switch is in the wrong position, they are more complicated than they used to be.
