Brand new RVer!!!

Hello Folks!
We are about to buy our first RV and have several questions:
1- What is the ideal length to navigate across the US without problems (including national parks)?
2- Diesel or GAS and why?
3- Are slideouts to be avoided or no known problems?
4- Ford or Mercedes?
5- For the same price, brand new Thor Axis 24.1 2018, or used Forrest SunSeeker 2800 GTS 2018 (2800 Miles) and why?
Thanks a lot for your help and hope to see you soon on he road!!

You aren't getting responses because you ask too many questions in the same post, and you can find answers to several of these questions by using the search function. There are a lot of answers here. It's best to search first.

Gasoline vs. Diesel, lots of discussion on this, but a lot depends on how much you use your RV. Low to moderate use favors the gas models. Heavy use favors the diesel. Diesels use a LOT of oil and expensive filters at oil change time.

Many campgrounds have a 25 ft. limit on RVs because their parking spaces are too short. You can usually fudge a foot or two.

Slideouts are a good idea. Like anything mechanical or electrical or hydraulic, they sometimes mis-functjon. Also, pay attention to the "closed position" access from inside. If you can't access what you need from the inside when slide-outs are in, maybe you should consider another rig.

Good luck!

Your not getting answers because the questions are so broad and the best answers are depends.

How many days are you planning to camp a year?

How many people?

What's your budget?

will you pull a car for site seeing?

Go look at several in person. Take time to think about living in it. Cooking & eating, can multiple people move around or will it be a pain. Think about a rainy day when everybody is stuck inside?

Once you find floor plan layout you like then look at quality of the different manufactures. Checkout here and other owners forums to see what kind of issues people have.

In general east coast parks are smaller and will need smaller rig and west coast parks are bigger.

I really disagree with the above statement. We stayed in public parks - national, state, Corp, national forests, county and city with our 40' motorhome and Jeep. We never came across a campground with a 25' limit although there may be some out there but it's surely not common.

Get the size RV you'd be comfortable in staying.

In 16 years of full-timing - traveling constantly - we didn't have any issues with slides. Some people do.

I would say for you to look at all different types of RV. If it is a Motorhome you are considering look at both gas and diesel with and without slides and various lengths.
Only you and your partner can decide what will be right for you. There will be things you like and there will be things she likes. It will be a compromise.
If you decide on a 25 ft. for example try renting one for a small trip and that willspeak volumes on what will work for you. It is cheaper than buying one and realizing it was a mistake! Good luck and happy hunting!

Our First and Current RV is a 25' Freedom Express from Coachman, It doesn't have a slide and it is gas. For us it is just right, although like any other guy I want something bigger and my Wife keeps me centered. Gas Mileage is fair, somewhere between 10-12 MPG without towing.
Really it comes down to personal tastes and how many times you are using it. Have Fun!
