Hello all, just got my first RV. Love it so far, but shes old and will need some TLC inside and out.

Any tips for getting the outside to shine and glimmer(fiberglass)? I was looking at the Meguiars compound, looks like a lot of work which is fine, but also came across "Shine On" - no buffing required. Any thoughts on this?

Also is there a good source for replacing all the decals on the outside of the rig? Mine are cracked and weather worn. If its not too costly i would like to DIY this and between the new decals, and getting the fiberglass to shine, she should look like new! (from the outside)

Go to a boating supply place for products to really bring up that gelcoat finish. A friend was using on his boat and it looked like new when he was done. This was last September and I don't remember what the name was. The store clerk told him what to get.

i just had mine redone.. wet sand and polish. I have tried numerous products and had no luck till now.

Use a rubber wheel to remove the decals. You could do a wrap on the whole or partial rig that would bring it back to life. Will cost more than elbow grease though.

I used “Shine On” last year on my 1996 Southwind. The finish was sun faded and oxidized . I was very pleasantly surprised by the results. The only drawback I noticed was hand scrubbing every square inch of the finish with their cleaner and pad. Surface prep is very important with this product. It took me several afternoons. But the results were worth it.

Will go to the marine store and see what they have to say.

Also will use a heat gun and the rubber wheel method to get old deals off! After that will apply Ghost off to remove any inconsistencies the decals leave behind, then treat the oxidation, then get new decals.

Does that sound like a solid plan?

Also any of you have a source for new decals?

Any shops near you that does truck signs. I had some made up for our RV. Needed something to make it ours.

Not sure why you have to go to a marine store....they are going to tell you the same thing. Unless you are going there to get a quote for them to do the work.

Spend that time compounding the gel coat.

re: decals. Some have masked, used "thick" primer to fill the decal cracks, painted their existing decals". Or a more thorough job is to remove the decals (use the rubber eraser wheel) and replace them. Find a place to get the decals before you start on this. Or remove and paint new stripes on.
