Broken latch

My compartment door will not unlatch on one side. This is not on a pass through compartment. I have no access from below or from the neighboring wall. Need someway to open without damage to the door.

Try lubricating it.
Closely examine it to see if something is bent or out of place. Or if something is stuck in the latch.

Sounds like one of the latching ears is broken. Try slightly pushing the door inward to take the tension off, then pull the latch handle open and thump the area where the broken latch is. Maybe if you are lucky the broken piece will work it's way back allowing you to open the door.

Do your ears look like these? If so, I know a great replacement source.

I have that type on my Itasca. Just took one apart the other day and have to believe that the weak point in the setup is the plastic piece with ears that is activated by the cam in the handle. It pulls the latches inward to open the door.

I'm supposing that the latches actually latch inside the compartment on the OP's. If so, then all I can think of is to first try what you suggested. If that didn't work, then the OP might try prying the door towards the unlatched side (screwdriver in the crack of the latched side) while at the same time, pulling the door open from the unlatched side. Who knows, might work, just depends on how well the latch is engaged on the bad side.

The latches on mine engage into plastic tabs outside of the compartment. If the OP's are like that, then it should be fairly easy to manually retract them with a screwdriver or something similar.

As mentioned, a picture or two would help.
