Bunk Net or rail?

I've done some searching on the forum and I find people talking about adding a rail to their top bunk in their bunkhouse but I can't find any pictures.

Can those who have come up with good solutions share some pics? I've got the rear bunkhouse setup and my older son won't sleep on the top for fear of falling off.

Would love to build some kind of rail but would love some examples of success stories... and not so successful stories

Here is my setup. Sorry when I attached the images they rotated for some reason :(

No need to rig one up. A bed rail can be purchased for $20-$35. Amazon has a bunch of them.

Anyone have advise for one versus another? Would like something permanent. Most are just wedges under the mattress.

top bunk

Do like they used to in the Navy for top bunks.
On the one ship I was on (USS Holland AS 32) the crew slept 3 bunks high. With the exception of the mess cooks who had bunks 5 high. The top 2 bunks had nets the guys would pull up and latch (hook) to the bunk above them. This kept them from rolling out during heavy seas.

Sounds funny, but it is true.

Ours is built out of PVC. Similar to the ones in your pic it has “legs” that slide under the mattress to keep in place. Just google “PVC Bunk rail”, lots of info out there. Added upside is you can customize length as needed. I don’t seem to have any pics of it in place on ours or I’d share.

My kids are 8 and it still keeps them in place very well. Pulls out for easy storage/bed making as well.

In our overcab truck camper we custom made this type enclosure. Nylon crib netting with nylon webbing stitched around the edges. Add the clips/fastners of your choice to the webbing and bunk.
We used a combination of snaps and turn buckle fastners. Our 2 yr old son (at the time) tested it on multiple occasions and we would find him sleeping in the netting hammock style.

We have netting on both bunks, upper and lower. Nets fasten to hooks, lower bunk hook under upper bunk, upper hook to ceiling of coach.

Daughter loves it, she sleeps on top bunk so dogs dont mess with her. Pillows and teddy bears dont fall out.

She gets in and hooks herself in.

Good luck.

Bunk Nets

Our little one loves the net that is permanently installed on the bottom of her bunk, and after getting in she attaches the top. The netting stores under the mattress when not in use. She won’t sleep without it.
