I got those people wanting me to buy those reports when selling motorcycles on craigslist.. Bastards acted like they were interested.. but just wanted me to buy the report.. I remember looking at the website, but was suspicious.. I got several people asking me to buy those reports.. and just started to delete them when they would ask for the reports.. lol Also read a lengthy report on the "carfax" scam as well. I will not buy one of those either... I do use PayPal when I am suspect on ordering something that comes from China etc. and so far have been protected on several scams..

Scam Website

I did some checking on this website. "getvehreport" it is hosted in Brazil and was just created in October 2022. It's "whois" is blocked, which means the owner doesn't want you to know who they are. I agree with others here, report to your credit card.

A little of subject but as a vehicle owner you can post performed maintenance for your vehicle(s). It will show up on future sales.

While I do maintain my vehicle history there, I don't recall there being a spot for adding my motorhome.

Your point is valid, but the whole whois “Privacy Protection” thing is standard protocol for even legit organizations. This prevents the listing of the contact person’s name on who is. It also prevents the vultures from spamming the domain owners with fake renewal and transfer documentation.

Let's see, the OP purchased a vehicle report for $30 and got the report. That doesn't fall under the guideline for a scam, just a scheme. It can be a scheme without being illegal. As long as your CC isn't used for something else, it is a transaction and nothing for a State Attorney General to investigate. The phony buyer likely gets a commission and searching vehicles for sale is a tool he/she uses.
