CA National Forest Closed

https://www.sacbee.com/news/californ...253864053.html

(Paywall dropped for this article)

Quote:
With fires raging across the state, the USDA Forest Service is closing all 20 million acres of California’s national forests to public access for two weeks beginning Tuesday.

In an announcement Monday, the Forest Service said the closure will extend through at least Sept. 17.

This closure starts at noon Tuesday.

Those caught entering Forest Service lands — including developed campgrounds, hiking trails and recreation sites — typically face fines of up to $5,000 for violating closure orders.

The closure order only applies to Forest Service lands. State and national parks and private lands set their own rules.

They cancelled our reservation due to this.

Recreation.gov issues full refunds though.

Sad thing is that resources are stretched very thin due to all the fire activity in my state. Minimal crews are remaining in case something starts up.

Many people don't know that the state of California only owns 3% of our state's forests. 58% is owned by the federal government, and the rest is owned by private and Native American groups.

That's why when certain federal people came to California and blamed us for not "raking our forest", or maintaining them, they should have been looking in a mirror and saying that.

By the way it's just heartbreaking to see what's going on up at Tahoe.

Nature always has the upper hand. Some East Coast states have agricultural burns or other "prescribed" burns to keep devastation at bay. California regulators have prevented these actions. Too late, so sorry!!!

I think you missed the fact that California only owns 3% of our forests. It's not California policy that is preventing maintaining the vast majority of the forests here. Again, the federal government owns 58%, and the rest is privately owned or owned by Native American groups.

The vast majority of forest burning up in Tahoe is federally owned.
