Camco water filter
I picked up a water filter from Walmart for around $20 and it immediately leaked. BTW, I did try plumbers tape. My question is for those who are familiar with this item, did I happen to get a bad one or are they notorious for leaking?
I am going to return it but wondered if I should pick up another one or just pocket the money and forget about it.
Thanks for any replies.

I go through 5 or 6 a year, and never had one leak. Are you running a pressure regulator ahead of the filter?

I've had several with no leaks. We do run our pressure regulator before the filter.

Just take it back and get another to see if it works, several of the ones I have had have leaked at the seam. If it is leaking from the fitting, you sure it has a washer in it?

Mine leaked all the time because the washers weren't seated correctly.

Over the course of many years never had one leak except when the rubber washer was missing or worn out. If it's the cannister, take it back to Walmart and get a new one.

You have to really get the fittings tight to prevent leaks!

Funny you bring this up. I cut one in half to see what was in them that made them a filter. It is filled with crushed activated charcoal. Not a bad substance for getting rid of things that cause odors in your water, actually would do some good on any pesticides that might be in the water but not really a filter. The slower water goes through it the better it will work. Would be best if you had a sediment filter in front of it but since most water is fine you are probably okay either with it or without it.

Yes. I'll re-check the washer.
