I buy the compressed sawdust logs, saw one into chunks when I use real wood for fires. They light with a match and will ignite everything but wet or green wood.
When i use the sawdust logs each one burns for 2 hrs. That's about enough time between nightfall and bedtime for us.
I call those "yuppie logs" and I use them also. I used to also use them at home in the fireplace when we lived in CT. The 2 hour burn was just right for an evening when we had to go to work the next day.

We use these also. Easy to carry and work great.

Can

Cut off a beer or soda can about half way. Place in fire pit. Fill with gas, or lighter fluid. stack logs around and then over the top. Light the gas. The gas will burn a long time in the can. Only the vapors burn. This will light wet wood if your in a bind.

I hope you're removing those cans when you leave the camp. Otherwise, we volunteers have to do it.

Awesome ideas

Was trying also to get across how handy this fan is…
I don’t get a commission, or trying to sell,
But it impressed the hell out of myself how many uses it had
Awesome ideas to remember though!!

McDonalds waxed cups filled with little sticks used to work so well. I used and save them more camp fire in the woods with friends and a cooler full of beer before being of legal age.

I do the same, except with added, melted candle wax. These fire-starters burn for at least 30 min.

This is exactly what I use and then when I want garlic bread I just put it on a flat pan and cook it outside. It does bring some strange looks of course and starts a lot of conversations.

Bought a bag of Matchlight charcoal. Vacuum sealed 2 bricketts in a bag to contain the odor. Lay wood on top and light.

Fat Wood is a miracle and is all natural. No chemicals like the sawdust logs.
