Yep, if you can't see them, they can't see you, so you are not helping.

A buddy that gets a little rammy was backing into a site. Another buddy was on the other side guiding him. The driver was ignoring me and watching the other guy. Problem was, I was trying to get him to stop from running into a HUGE rock, but he never looked at me. It was all clear on the other side, so he just smashed into the rock on my side!

Moral of the story is to look at both sides, and both helpers if there are 2. Then maybe get out and look if any doubt at all.

Backing boat trailer down ramp. I taught my wife this trick years ago and now she does all the backing so I don’t need to get out of boat.

1. Look forward, quit trying to look over your shoulder. Rely on mirrors.
2. Put hand at top of steering wheel.
3. Turn top of wheel in direction of which mirror you see the trailer.
4. If you don’t see trailer it is directly behind you.

Funny story. Heading in to ramp. Guy cuts me off in his 30k bass boat to get to dock first. I smile 😊. He has his wife hold boat while he gets truck. He is blocking entire dock. I nose it and drop wife off anyway. He gives my wife a funny look, like what are YOU doing. She smiles 😀. She goes and gets our 26ft motorhome with trailer. She watches him for 10 minutes try to back in, pull forward, repeat. She pulls beside him and backs perfectly in on first try. I attach boat and we are out in 30 seconds. Now the funny part…. She pulls forward and rolls down the window. I hear her say… “sir, do you need some help with that?”. Priceless. He had a shocked look on his face 🤪

Talking Good tip!

SavnTheWales, Thanks for your post. Great tip about turning the wheel towards the mirror you see the trailer. It never occurred to me. Great tip for short trailers. After driving truck, trailer, camper, half my life! Learned? to back 3 chassis (deck sets). But never learned to back 4 or more. I knew 1 driver who could. But any of it takes patience and concentration. Also getting out to look. One time I was in a HURRY. Backing a 3 way chassis. Well- 10 minutes later, back and forward, did a lousy job and got the comment, "You must have done that before!" Patience! SamG.
