I can't quote figure this one out........

Heard this a week or so ago, and read the release on the CW website. It appears that they will continue to do business / be "branded" as RV World, not CW. CW has the Oakwood GA location that is what, maybe 15 miles away, so it's really not a geography play. And, RVW just recently spent a boatload of money upgrading / expanding thier facilities, so this is a bit surprising from that perspective too.

It appears that of course they will loose Tiffin. I have "heard" who is trying to get the Tiffin line, and if it goes through seems to be a very reasonable choice, just not as convent location wise to us as RVW is. "Ugh" for me, as I have been generally pleased with dealing with RVW for our purchase and service, but of course since I am out of warranty, no reason I can't continue to use them if I so desire. I haven't talked to our salesperson or service advisor yet, so have not gotten thier take on it......

I just don't know what CW is getting out of this, other than maybe this co-branded" model would eventually put higher end lines and / or Class As at the co branded locations vs. CW.

It's all about the mighty $ owner of rv world also owned camping time which is now camping world in oak wood so he's dumping another one to make the $$&&.

Another one bites the dust.

Make the trip to Douglasville and take your coach to Integrity RV. Your RV's will actually get repaired correctly and in a timely manner.

I considered taking our AC to RV World as they are an authorized Fleetwood warranty center. Not now, not ever.
Making plans to head to Indiana for our few warranty items.

Intesting about Camping Time, never knew that......... I just don't get why RVW put all that investment in the facilities if he was even remotely considering selling out........ Nor, what CW really gains from it..... I guess Marcus thinks he can make it more "cost efficient" and up the profitability to make his money back.

Anyway, as for the $$, I would actually consider (most of, maybe even almost all of) these situations with CW (at least at this point in time) is that the "local / privately held dealers" are selling out to CW on thier own free will and accord to thier (generally) sole personal benefit when the market is (now) hot vs. CW buying them out in a (more) "forceful" manner and / or due to financial distress as a "last resort" (thinking '08-'12 RV industry downturn situation).

Just a nuance of course........

cranemec, I have been aware of Integrity, good to know that you have had a good experience there, but it's just that Douglassville is not very convienient. The other dealer under consideration would be much easier for us to get to, but not as easy as RVW.

Regards

Indiana, you just don't realize how smart of a move that is.

The Camping World location in Oakwood is terrible. You can see it from I-985 but finding it by weaving thru the back streets of Oakwood takes courage with a big RV. The RV World location on I-85 is much nicer. Maybe Marcus plans to move Camping World down to Dacula.

If you look up the actual ownership, you should find that Camping World is not the business owner. For instance, Camping World of Indianapolis legally is Stoutes RV dba Camping World of Indianapolis.
Tom Stinnet RV in Clarksville Indiana "became" Camping World about 10 yrs ago. Two years ago it reverted to Tom Stinnet RV again.

I saw the same thing happen with a locally owned car dealership chain in my area. The owner built a NEW massive Ford facility from the ground up right next to the interstate. He then promptly sold it to a larger chain.

All the CW dealerships with hidden real owners and flipping names back and forth is too strange for me to figure out. Unless the true owners think calling it Camping World makes it easily recognized......can't see where that would make a positive difference. Heck, I'm confused.

Sounds like the same thing with Meyers in Rochester and Bath, NY. They went to CW and then pulled out. I suspect it was a franchise deal that did not produce the expected results.

It may also deal with product availability. In short there are more people making pull behinds than motor homes. Manufacturers will not set up two dealers too close to each other. Around here that results in some dealers only having new/used pull behinds but only used motor homes. The franchise deal may have assured their pipeline into Thor. Times change and they may be getting better deals now from Thor without the CW overhead and hassle.

Tom Johnson's Camping Center in Marion, NC went to CW a couple of years ago. Now it nothing like what it was. All of the techs are gone, the showroom is just a big CW store and they carry few motorhomes, mostly Class C and leftover A's. I wont be going there anymore.

(Unless Tom Johnson comes back along with qualified techs that care about the work they do.)

Maybe they are franchises. McDonald's has corporate owned stores and franchises owned by individuals. Maybe CW has the same business model.

The reason they did it in Atlanta I believe is to control the market. My wife and I just bought a new Motorhome and we live in Atlanta. We were interested in looking at a Thor at least shopping it and we couldn't get one inside of 200 miles that wasn't a Camping world. I called Thor, and their stance was basically 'yea we know, and that they sell a lot of motorhomes for them" so they kind of look the other way on the service issues. It's all about the money.

Between camping world, and rv world they were a significant portion of the Atlanta market. There are smaller dealers but with smaller selections and not all brands. I was frustrated that some of the models we wanted to look at were only carried by those two who are now the same. We have a great local smaller dealer that we work with, but we only had one option. I guess it is what it is.

Funny because the owner of CW said in a stock market interview that he hated the motorhomes because they are expensive and sit on the lot for a long time.
