Thanks for the info, Barrier2. I wish I had read that before we made our purchase. I discovered after the fact that my doc and his wife had bought a new mh from camping world a few months earlier. They took it out camping and could not pull in the slideout, or get the jacks to lift. The hydrolics were not working. He called camping world, they were still under full warranty, and were told - too bad....you are more than 4 hours away, deal with it yourself. camping world amounts to nothing but crooks and thieves, who evidently have to answer to no one for their actions. Isn't there any regulatory agencies that oversee this industry? Probably not. Anyway, thanks again for sharing. I at least know I am not in this boat alone.

We were camping in Myrtle Beach recently and dropped by CW. They had a "new" 2007 5th wheel that had CRT TVs and they had reduced the price $5,800!

Are you sure there is not more to the story? Depending on the model of the RV, did your doc have any type of road side assistance like Coach Net, etc. to come and help? I find it hard to believe they basically told him to pound sand...

I have never purchased an RV from CW, but did use their services over the Thanksgiving Holiday. While traveling from PA to Naples, FL we encountered a FL gator and it smashed the black water push / pull valve on our motorhome. I called two places in the Naples area and they could not see me until the beginning of this week. We were heading back to PA on Sunday. I called CW in Ft Myers, FL and explained the issue. The service adviser asked when I could be there. Pulled in the parking lot an hour later, the took my info, showed me the waiting room and within an hour I was headed back to Naples with the repair completed. I was charged fairly with both parts & labor. It made the trip back to PA with a wife & three small kids a lot better with a working bathroom.

I am sure with any RV sales or any dealership for that matter there are good and bad places. It is my understanding that most CW RV sales centers are private companies under the Camping World franchise if you will? Am I correct?

Reading about all these negative experiences with Camping World compels me to write about my recent dealings with them that have been just the opposite. I realize that Camping World is a big company and service is bound to vary from store to store. We ordered and prepaid for an washer/dryer to be installed by Camping World, Burlington, Wa. We arrived the day before our 8 AM appointment and overnighted on their lot, c/w power. The next morning, we were taken in right on time. The W/D c/w external vent, was installed and we were on our way before noon, no extra charges for anything. That was last May, 2010. We have since driven our RV about 10,000 miles as we are presently driving around North America. We have been using the washer/dryer a couple of times per week without any problem at all.
Last week, we took our 2007 Itasca 35' Class A into Camping World at North Charleston, SC. for the Norcold fridge recall. We called them two weeks in advance during which time they ordered in the replacement kit. We arrive at their doorstep at 9 AM last Monday morning and were on our way by 10:30 AM. So far, the fridge works fine. As a side note, I viewed a picture on their bulletin board of an RV that suffered a fire as a result of an overheated fridge!! The RV was a write off. Anybody with a Norcold fridge should check their cooling unit SN. with Norcold. The recall has recently been expanded. Please do not ignore this recall. A picture is worth a 1000 words and this fire was devastating! Fortunately, the owners managed to get out.

Drive safe, Derek

PS: I am not a mechanic but do all my own oil/filter changes, lubrication and routine maintenance. I have had similiar experiences with oil changes as mentioned in the thread, but not with Camping World.

The Camping World in Gulf Breeze, Florida has always been professional and fair in dealings with both me and my landlord, who also bought his RV there.

No complaints from me.

I agree! I solved my problem with all their junk mail. I finally dropped my membership. It was a miracle...all the junk mail stopped.

If you had service work done at one of their stores, you can go to this link and rate them for the questionable work.

I signed up to buy a class a from CW. That night I was looking on line and corporate CW had lowered the price on my rv exact stock # by 4000.00. I went in to talk to my salesman about price change. I expected a 4000.00 reduction in my purchase instead they told me to take it or leave it. I was very disappointed we had spent a lot of time finding what I thought was a good rv for me. I would have worked with them on this but sales manager stayed in his glass box and said nothing. So I walked.

MISSING CAMPING WORLD, A thought.

It would be a sad day for RVers if Camping World ever closed its doors. For all the good, bad or ugly, we need them and should support them through these hard times. It is the one place we can go to get those hard to get items all under one roof. It is a bit like having your crazy aunt over at Christmas, she's fun to talk about but you shure would miss her if she died !

Chuck I disagree. Some of their unscrupilous buisness practices discribed here is proof they need to go away. I don't shop with them and find everything I need for my rig. If I can't find it local I find it online.

Never bought a MH or had one serviced at CW. We have bought many nice items at CW and I feel at good prices. I compare on line, Sam's club (lawn chairs etc.) and RV stores in my town. they meet or beat on sales all prices most of the time.

If CW is really doing bad business practices it will eventually bite them. Someone will replace them. And they will go thru the same business cycle. Start off with good service and then be squeezed into cutting corners by a bad economy or greedy corporate managers. That is unless Walmart takes them over.
