I started this thread because of reading another member asking what people do when wanting to vacation for awhile, leave their RV away from home for a short time, return, vacation, leave their RV for short time, etc. I didn't want to hijack his thread, so here goes. . . . by the way, Ron may kill me for writing this, and you'll see why below . . .
A friend of ours, Ron, lives in New Windsor, NY. He vacations with his coach out of state in different locations, and has run into the problem of where to store his coach during his return trips home. He wanted to be able to leave his coach for a week or three while he and his wife flew home between jaunts. Although he paid long term storage at the airports for his toad, he was concerned about finding places to store his coach between his trips. Then he apparently found a solution! It works like this:
He had purchased his coach new at Camping World. While on a trip in the South, he went into a CW to have some warranty work done. . . . They said it would take about two weeks . . . Perfect! He would be back in 2.5 weeks and the work would be done! Meanwhile the coach would be stored in a lighted, fenced lot. He emptied out the fridge, and had solar to keep the battery charged and run the Fantastic Fan if it got too hot, so he was all set.
He came back in 2.5 weeks, they hadn't even looked at the coach yet. He said "I can't wait, you said it would be ready in 2 weeks, it isn't, and I've given you longer than that, so I'm taking my coach and leaving.
Fast forward to next return home . . . He dropped it off at ANOTHER CW, they said something like two to three weeks, he was gone 3.5 weeks. They had "looked at" the coach, but hadn't ordered parts, or done any work . . . he took the coach, did his jaunt of traveling, left it at ANOTHER CW, same thing!
Finally the fourth time, they not only had looked at the problem, but had the parts inbound. They arrived and they fixed the issue. Game over you might think?!?
, NOPE, he had ADDITIONAL WARRANTY items to be fixed! This went on for the entire year his coach was under warranty, and now he just uses his "system" for regular repairs. He's had a couple of CW's that attempted to bill him for "lot storage" since he wouldn't wait around for them to do the requested repair, but he was always careful to make them write the estimated repair time on the work order, as well as a statement that the customer would return on (insert date) to pick up his RV, so he's never paid a storage fee, although once he threatened to call the police when they refused to let him take his vehicle unless he paid the "storage bill". On the occasions when CW has successfully completed the requested repairs in the time allotted, he has happily paid the bill and left.
