I made a call to the Federal Trade Commission this morning and he told me that the collection agency was suppose to send me a letter explaining and showing what I owe. I only got the one letter from XM Radio on Oct. 8, 2010.
I got a case number from the FTC, so now just waiting for the collection agency to respond.
I also liked the XM Radio, but the price just got higher than I was willing to pay. I also don't want anymore automatic renewal.

If you like the XM, just get a lifetime subscription and don't worry about it anymore. I have it on both Lexus, the motor home, and my Explorer. For a $75.00 fee I can move it (up to 5 times) to a new car when/if I trade vehicles.

A couple days later another call and I said NO. Another day or two more calls and with the caller ID I did not answer the calls. One Sunday I got a call from them in the morning that I did not answer and a couple hours later another call that I did. I did answer this one as I was very mad and told them in not so polite of a voice to leave me alone. No more calls and the XM radio was not working so I figured good. Tonight I get a call FROM EOCCA a collection agency. Telling me I owed XM radio $23 and change. I told them I not paying them anything and wanted a number with someone at XM Radio to talk with them about this. I got a number and could get no where with the person on the phone and asked for a number of a supervisor or someone that could help me. I was giving the number of the collection agency that called my house. I wonder if a lawyer now will take this case. I can't seem to get anywhere.

I had a similiar problem last year. I took advantage of their introductory offer for six months. Unknown to me, they automatically billed my Visa for a one year subscription renewal at the end of the six months. I noticed it on my Visa statement. I phoned and told them that I did not want to renew. I feel they should have asked me first. I think it is called, "negative option billing". You have to contact them in advance of the subscription expiring to advise them you do not want to renew, otherwise, they automatically continue the subscription!! At any rate, they gave me a refund, no hassle.
By the way, I have Sirius Sat. radio in my motorhome and the same billing procedures apply. I mark my calendar to remind myself to call them ahead of the expiry date to cancel.

Companies like this take advantage of people who do not read the fine print in the agreement they signed up for. Unfortunately, the people who either did not read the agreement or forget the terms, end up spending more than they planned.

Charles, I like the XM Radio, but will not do business with a company that has harassed me. On the second call I told them I did not want their service anymore. That was the end of October. I got calls from them every other day from them after that. I was not interested did not want the service for the $337.86. So that should have been it. I did contact XM Radio by email last week and was suppose to get a reply the next business day it took five business days. I do have a number to call now to talk with them. I am going to wait as the FTC told me until I get a break down of the charges from the collection agency.

I don't think so, there's no ground for being favorable. Legally, you owe something, Collection agency's "NORMALLY DO NOT" hassle you without legal right to do so. As before mentioned, $23.00 is a small price to pay to make this go away. JMHO, good luck.

You are kidding, right? I have a collection agency calling me all of the time over a debt owed by someone with my name who lives in the same town as I do. They told me they were coming to my house to collect the money. I asked them what my address is and they gave me some address that isn't mine, so I told them to come on over. When I threaten to report them and sue them they just laugh and hang up.

A large sign in the yard warning that there are guard dogs here will discourage just about everyone. works for me.
I use to be constantly bothered with sales people banging on my door;
no more.
I don't even have a dog

$25 hear, $25 there... So if they keep the sums low enough we're to just PAY them to make them go away?
I don't think so!

I've been with XM a long time. I still use the first "Delphi cradle" receiver unit, IE, I install a cradle in a vehicle and move it to a new vehicle when the time comes. I also have the "boom box" and I simply move the XM receiver to the boom box. I always said I'll never buy Sirius radio because the "Pig",Howard Stern, was on their radio- Well I lost that battle when they bought XM.
Then renewal time comes around- I started out paying $9.95/mo when I bought into XM. Then the price went up tp $12.95 and I opted for the one year plan which still gave me $9.95/mo. Then I went to three years and it was still $9.95/mo, and then I heard there was "lifetime" plan. I jumped on that when I found out it was only $30 total more than the now, new 3 year billing price. I'm told the "lifetime subscription" is only on that one receiver I now have- That's okay with me.
I say pay the $32, or so, and get it behind you. It's over, forget it! I'm now paying money to have Howard Stern hanging around and I once said "I'd never do that".
That reminds me of a promotion party we, five of us, had many years ago in the Air Force. We all were going to pitch in $200 apiece and one guy, a Mormon, said I won't pay for a party where liquor is being served, I told him his money is going towards the food only- He bought that logic and joined in on the party costs- .

I would have probably paid the $32 if they had given me a break down of when the service ended. I have no idea when my service. I got the truck in June 2006 and I think 6 months was free. They also made me very mad calling me every other day trying to sell me XM Radio. A few days of this and I never wanted to do business with them again. I need to find out when it ends on the wife's car so I don't go through this again. I did get a letter from the collection agency today, but only states I owe $32 no break down or nothing. I think they owe me a couple of thousand for calling me every other day. Never see it just like I never pay them a dime.

Okay, so the letter should (by law) state that you have 30 days to disput the debt or they assume the debt is valid. Respond in writing and mail certified. If you don't, they are going to keep coming at you. If after you respond they continue to harass you with out giving you written proof of the debt, respond in writing certified that they are violating the fair debt collections act and send a copy to the attorney general. They will go away.
