Near disaster.
MINE SELF EXTENDED.
I was extremely fortunate that while on a 2 month road trip I pulled over at a Highway look out stop, RV was off, key out, after about 5 minutes we heard a very frightening noise not knowing what it was.
The awning had fully extended, the motor was running, stopped after timing out I guess.
The 2 arms were extended and the fabric was very loose.
I knew about the manual retract feature which require me to climb onto the roof, remove the front end cap, use a 3/8” square drive ratchet wrench to retract. Problem then was the internal spring mechanism kept pushing the awning fabric out.
So obviously the brake mechanism was broken inside of the motor unit.
There is no way to tie a rope or similar around the whole unit to keep it from extending.
I disconnected the power connections, then found a way to jamb up the rotating parts internally. Hope to get it safely to a proper repair.
My point is that this is a serious, life threatening problem.
If you have this recall please get it done ASAP.
I may have mine repaired, then removed.
When do I use my awning?
1. When it’s raining? Nope. Is usually too windy, it will be wet and get moldy when it gets retracted from the wind.
2. When I need shade from the sun? Maybe, if the wind behaves.
3. While driving 60 mph down the road? Not my choice it seems!
No thanks for this piece of junk
