Cargo Trailer conversion

Looking for information how folks have installed Gray and black tanks in a cargo trailer.

I just bought a united trailer with Fold out bed and will be converting it into a trailer with bathroom, and sink. I spent a lot of time looking at pre built trailer and all I saw was lot of work keeping them on the road.

Well I predict a lot of work adding plumbing and tanks, where do you plan to put the tanks? Under a false floor?

You could mount a tank under something like the bed. That way it could be partially above the floor and partially below the floor giving you ground clearance. I have noticed in looking at some motorhomes the toilet appears to be a foot or so off the floor. Don't know if the toilet is mounted directly on the tank or not. If possible that would allow the black tank to be partially above and partially below.

It will take some creative thinking and probably the loss of storage space. Maybe take a look at agricultural tanks as they come in different shapes but are made of the same materials.

There are quite a few videos on Youtube on converting a cargo trailer to a camper.
I guess if nothing else works you could rely on one of the wheeled totes.

I researched this and found plenty of tanks that would fit between the frame rails. A tank 8”deep, 16” wide and 7’ long would be roughly 45 gallons. Plenty for a good size black tank and easy to put below the floor. Three of this and you’re in business. there was a seller on eBay that could provide tanks in just about any dimensions, so with a little creativity and some good plumbing skills I found this was entirely possible. I ended up buying a bigger toy hauler so negated the need, but it was certainly possible without too much expense or difficulty.

Gray Tanks

You are right this is no small task, I have a 7’ tall trailer and was planing on putting tanks under the floor., Sort of , with the floor being OSB and no protection from the road. I was playing on removing the floor adding plastic between the rails and foaming the the void and then building the floor up 6” and Dropping two 2’ wide tanks in the voids. I should be able to get 2 tanks in the floor and the water tank will make up the kitchen wall.

The biggest problem i see at this point is the Toilet need to set above the black tank.

This may lead me to an Aluminum false floor like you would have in a data center. I have the ability to draw all this into CAD but what fun is that. I will get the shower / toilet pan and Tanks and lay it out on my shop floor with chalk, build it all and slid into place.

This way I get buy in on location from the big Boss (Wife).

I love the input from you all , I have built a lot of building and this will be my first RV.

Couple more thoughts come to mind- pumped, or vacuflush toilet, and a stand-up corner tank for water - have one of those in my horse trailer.

I once had a cargo trailer conversion. I hung the tanks under the trailer that metal with the 3/8 perforated holes for straps. I also put a 1/4 foam board between the floor of the trailer and the tank.
