Catalytic converters

I have been driving diesel trucks for 16 years and I just found out these suckers have catalytic converters. I thought only gas engines had cat converters.

I was in Arkansas last week with my RV and the check engine light came on. Took it to the GM dealer, they pulled the codes and said it was a catalytic converter issue but everything checked out OK. Well that was sure a surprise to me since I didn't even know they had one.

In doing a little research I found that you need to clean these converters with catclean on occasion.

My question is to you Diesel guys, is this true? Have any of you used this cleaner? I have never heard this mentioned on this or any other forum.

Your truck being a 2014, I would have thought it had a DPF or diesel particulate filter.

It does have a DPF, that is part of what is confusing me. The service writer at the GM dealer says it has both and the article I read about the cleaning said the same thing

That pretty well explains it. Thanks for finding this info. It has a lot more detail than what I was reading. The DOC acts just like a catalytic converter and has some precious metals enclosed.

An aside; catalytic converters are being stolen from airport parking lot cars now. All it takes is a battery-powered saw and being skinny enough to get under a car.
