CCW through Indian Reservations?

CCW through Indian Reservations?

I am going to be traveling through some Indian Reservations with my RV this summer(Arizona, New Mexico and possibly Utah) and I have never thought about CCW through Indian Reservations?

What are the restrictions if any?

Drive with care, obey speed laws, and watch for open range livestock.

No need for a two gun western rig.

http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/tribal_law_ccw.pdf

Arizona has 21 Indian tribes, which hold about a quarter of the land in the state. Here are a sample of the rules on some of the largest reservations in the state:

  • Navajo Nation: According to HandgunLaw.us, the Navajo Nation makes it illegal to carry a deadly weapon including a gun.
  • Tohono O’odham Nation: The Tohono O’odham Nation prohibits the carry of a concealed weapon on a person or in a vehicle. It is illegal within the reservation to fire a gun within a quarter mile of an occupied home.
  • Hopi Tribe: The Hopi Indian Tribe requires a permit signed by the judge of the Hopi Trial Court and the superintendent of the reservation in order to carry a concealed handgun.
  • White Mountain Apache Tribe: In the White Mountain Apache Tribe Reservation, it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon unless authorized by the tribal government, state government, or the United States government. A permit is necessary to carry a concealed weapon.

Just wondering...is the question about the legality of carrying a concealed weapon while outside the area covered by the authority that issued the individual CCW permit? This has nothing to do with RV's.

Or, is the question about carrying/ transporting a firearm within the confines of an individual's RV?

I submit that reciprocity of a CCW permit would be a very narrow scope. The methods/means required for firearms transport within an RV vary from state to state and even county to county.

Thanks

This is an excellent topic, and something I had not considered before today. Last year we traveled extensively through reservation land and it never occurred to us that we might have a problem with our Texas-issued CCW. I wouldn't see it being a problem unless you were breaking other laws that call attention to yourself.

Got so used to many TLA being used in the USAF, that it seems normal to me. (Three Letter Acronyms)
