Changing out slideout lights
In my slideout i have these big bulb type lights. Im allways bumping my head on the stupid things (i have two of them). You would think that any MFG would know that since the ceiling in a slideout is so low, its not a smart idea to put anything but resessed lighting in there.
Anyway i want to change them out for flat ceiling lights. I think they are 12v lights because the wire from them comes from the 12v junction box and then feeds down my un-used 12v outlet in the dinnete area.
So im thinking i should be able to just change them out for a flat style light fixture that i have in the rest of the trailer. At least that should give me alittle more headroom.
Has anyone done this before and is it as easy as i think it is? Im thinking i could just switch it out with one of the lights on the taller ceiling.
Here is what i have...

I bought all new 12 volt fixtures for mine. Just have to watch plus and neg. with LEDs. Easy. I also used the proper size crimps with the proper tool to crimp. I hater 12 volt problems where the wrong connections are made!

Thanks, do you just get the fixtures like home depot or the like or do i have to go to a RV store or online?
I took it apart and i have worked with lights before, so yeah it looks simple..
maybe something like this..
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/12-VOLT-3-ROU...hX7sNh&vxp=mtr
UPDATE: no that wont work, cutout is only 2.25 ill have to find something that has at least the same size cutout that i already have... ill have to measure it to be sure.

You need an RV/Marine type store for 12 volt fixtures. Only reason I said about connectors is wire nuts don't take too well to shaking and cause heat.

Hmm, well Mfr's tend to think about cost primarily, followed by whether it can bounce down the road a 60MPH.
The pictured fixture "looks" 115V style to me, but would be easier to tell with the globe off. (those thumb screws). Use a VOM to be sure.
Swapping a fixture shouldn't present a big deal (recessed fixture? You do realize there's only appr. 1.25" in that slide ceiling?) although fishing new wires in a slide wall to a switch could present a challenge. Not really enough info. presented for me to evaluate the project.
Easy / simple are relative terms?
Be well.

I haven't seen any rvs with 120 volt lighting unless maybe a park model.

Do tell, oh well. Pardon.
MS, Cardinal, Teton Home, Travel Supreme, granted they were older models with generators . They had 12V lighting also but it didn't offer enough lumens. Guess I run in the wrong circles. Thank goodness for the modern LED's
OP: please show us your results, happy remodeling.
Be well.

I'm sorry. I thought we were referring to modern rvs with slides. I haven't run into any old ones with 120 volt lighting. My bad!

I am sure if you do a Google search you will find something that will fit. Then check around for the bestuh price. The ones I found are 3" high, 5" wide and 10" long.
